I dont know if this is funk or funky, but I have always liked the Isley Bros. Especially That Lady Pts 1 and 2. Ernie Isley plays a mean fuzz guitar. After all, Ernie learned how to play from Jimi Hendrix, and it shows.
"Strange" by Joe Satriani. And Nuno Bettencourt's style is a nice mixture of funk and heavy rock. The same can be said about Primus as well. Unless you wanted more of a conventional, full out funk, then I'm not sure...
ON THE ONE They feature John Staten (drummer from Karl Denson's Tiny Universe) And Jesse Maloy (a ridiculous horn player), and last time i saw them they had this young dude, maybe 21, named Pete Lombardo who could play some of the finest funk, groove, rock, jam, jazz guitar ive seen.... definitely should check them out on archive.org ...the Las Tortugas is a good sounding one...
the budos band, the bamboos, the mighty imperials, the quantic soul orchestra, the daktaris, the gaturs, the diplomats of solid sound... phish circa 98 is pretty funky. the beastie boys album 'the in sound from way out' is pretty funky. nobody mentioned galactic?! or garage a trois... or garaj mahal? a genre you should check out if you're into funky stuff is afrobeat...
