I do, I do! I love to make yerba maté lattés with soy milk and cane sugar or maple syrup. They are incredibly delicious hot or cold. Yerba maté is an amazing plant, full of antioxidants (moreso than green tea, even) and is a natural source of energy. It can really help to cut appetite, I've found. I actually lost about 20 pounds over several months when I would drink it every morning. I was eating healthy of course too, but it definitely made a difference. It's great stuff and I have nothing but raves for it. My favorite brand is Guayaki.
i love it...i've only had it from Guayaki before...but yea, it um, yea...haha its good stuff
I love it. I have the green kind in the morning and the mint kind iced in the afternoon instead of coffee if I am trying to drop a few pounds. It's really helped me lose weight.
Wow, I didn't think people here would be that into matte! Very cool to hear how it helped you guys...yerba matte has a really good energy. I have had guyaki cocoa blend but the chocolate tasted really watered down to me...but I am used to consuming a lot of cacao beans, so that may have had something to do with it. I like shipibo matte , since I get it at a discounted price, and it has other herbs in it that arent just spices(cocoa, cinnamon, etc..) - http://174486.amazonherb.net/Group06_MatteTea.aspx
Anybody else here into yerba matte? I just saw the yoga action squad on myspace video say there were going out for matte lattes after they did yoga...funny videos, highly recommended. EDIT * I just wrote a little article on Yerba MAtte..I just learned a lot about yerba matte Yerba Matte Tea! Yerba Matte Plant Yerba Maté (pronounced "yerba mah-tay") is a medicinal and cultural herbal beverage that was introduced to the world by the Guarani Indians of South America. It has become a cultural focal point for several South American nations especially Argentina where it is even more popular than coffee. Yerba Maté is the national beverage of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Over the last several years, Yerba Maté has enjoyed fast-spreading popularity in North America and Western Europe, by persons seeking a stimulating yet healthful replacement for coffee. Yerba Maté contains many compounds that help keep its drinkers healthy and energetic, including some compounds that thus far have been found only in Maté. There are 196 volatile (or active) chemical compounds found in the Yerba Maté plant. Yerba mate assists weight loss by increasing the transit time of food through the digestive tract, helping users feel fuller, longer. The British Herbal Compendium also recommends yerba mate for treating fatigue and headache. An August 11, 2005 United States patent application , and cites yerba mate extract as an inhibitor of MAO activity; the maximal inhibition observed in vitro was 40–50%. A monoamine oxidase inhibitor is a type of antidepressant, so there is some data to suggest that yerba mate has a calming effect in this regard. MAO Inhibitors are also thought to aid weight loss and suppress appetite, much like the one's found in Raw Cacao Beans. Yerba Matte Click Here to Buy a great sweet tasting Yerba Matte/Stevia Blend
Yerba Mate is amazing, but you guys need to drink it the real way!! With a gourd. Because Yerba Mate really translates to, "Yerba"=The plant, and "Mate"=Cup (as in the gourd you drink it in). Look at my sig if you want a picture of what it is. Also, I detest Guayaki because they waaaay overprice their yerba mate. In South America it is a lot cheaper. I get my yerba mate here at an import store for $6 a kilo.
i have tried this tea and i think its repulsive :O blegh....so i would like to know , who here actually drinks it plain without the sugar candies and milkies they throw in it , to make it actually taste good ? haha i have realised that people do not like tea , that just tastes like flavoured water piss, they actually like the cream and sugar and without it its totally lame...just something i have observed.
i got some yerba mate from the global mart in manassas , i got 1 kg of it for 7 dollars , i have had it before , but i was glad to find it there , now i got like 5 contaniers glass in the fridge so they can stay fresh . i have heard that yerba mate is also considerd the drink of the Gods? !
ostrosized is right, the propa way to drink yerba is with a gourd and bombilla. Anything else is a waste, and Guyaki is ridiculously overpriced, you can get key's of argentine mate for less than the price of one box of guyaki. I love mate and prefer it to coffee, the entire culture surrounding mate was taught to me by a friend of mine who grew up in buenos aires. it's common in southern south america to see people on the street carrying around thermos's of hot water along with a gourd and bombilla and sharing with each other. El servidor pours a serving of hot water into the gourd for each person and they in turn drink until it is dry. then you pass the gourd back to el servidor who then serves the next in turn. it's much more than a tea, the cultural traditions surrounding mate are a lost art, and quite similiar to the herb smoking traditions most of us practice.
I'm enjoying a gourd right now. I can't ever drink coffee again cept on rare occasions. The energy from the yerba is so much cleaner, with no crash where I feel tired again. I get the nativa brand, with the stems ground up. $140 or so for 25 lbs.
