Well i was riding my bike from the park when i saw a cat sticking its paws in a hole .while shifting his weight back and forth all around the perimeter of the hole.
then i saw the cat take something out of the hole as soon as i identified what the cat had in its mouth i charged towards the cat.i ran for about 30 feet , finally the cat dropped the poor mole. i quickly ran to the moles despair. the mole was still alive with bite wounds on its lower back. i felt really bad leaving him there. the cat was far off into the shadows watching me and its meal. so i decided to take the mole home. for two days i kept the mole. i provided him with all the food he can eat and a nice dark resting place. on his second night molely died. :( i buried him in my backyard. as i stood above his grave reflection came onto my choice. if i did the right thing for molely or was it wrong for me to ruin the cats meal. ............

I understand why you did that but in my personal opinion you should have left it.It was already injured , so the mole was, in reality, already dead. It is a hard life being a hunter and a huntee (is that a word?) but I think we need to let those things happen. We don't know the story of a cat. Hunters can waste their energy trying to hunt for food. Thats nature, cats eat moles. The only time I might step in is if it was some protected bird or something.
It is a very hard to choose what to do, and our first instinct is to help. But you can look at it from all different angles, you know what the right choice is for you.

i dont know if i made the right choice for myself, i just thought i could assist him to recover from his wounds.:/

what stunned my mind at the occurring time regarding the mole was:
    get eaten alive/consciously

    or die in peace..
what pains is his slow death...
next time i will let nature runs its course
    thanks guys for the advice..

I probably would have done the same if I thought I could rehabilitate the mole. But since I have NO clue how to do such a thing I may have just let things be. My cat had a mouse in it's mouth the other week and I scared the cat so it dropped the mouse and I realised as the mouse began to run that it had no injuries so I chased the mouse off as far as I could and chased my cat in the opposite direction....this is one of our farral cats who won't come near anyone so he ran off and the mouse was saved. All I could think was maybe that mouse had babies somewhere. But now there is a mouse in our home.......ironic. Haha

it was a nice thing you did but i wouldnt have kept him with me. cuz to put it in a scenario: I wouldn't want aliens doing weird stuff to me that is well out of my consciousness before i die. the alien intervention is good, but only with motions of complete life, so i'd say you did the right thing

I tried feeding the mole. Unfortunately its wounds were to severe :/

hah haha maybe you should try catching the mouse with a harmless cheese trap! ?

ha...I'd like to leave him be. But alas, I live with my parents right now and they are putting out the poision traps......ugh. I tried to change their mind and have them get the ones where you can trap and release but it didn't work:(

In The Circumstances I Would Have Done The Same Thing.

I Have Lived On The Land All My Life, And As Such Have Dealt With A Lot

Of Different Animals In A Lot Of Different Situations, And I Just Do What I

Think Is Right At The Time.

In Hindsight I Made Some Mistakes, We All Do..:).

    Take Care..:).

    Cheers Glen.

yes it may have been right for u and wrong for the cat ,but in the end the mole did die , and the cat is one less meal closer to death , i would have personally w the cat being what suspect to be a ferral out door tomcat , i would have let the cat have the meal , i mean hell we eat meat to .
i feel u were just doing what ur heart thought was right and i am not going to blame u , i think it was so sweet a thought .
just keep ur wits about u and dont get bit or any thing i admire ur curage

its not so much of whether you made a good decision or bad decision

if we follow the whole idea of nature and the way animals interact with other animals you followed your instinct which was to help the mole in whatever way you could.

if you choose to help an animal in distress then it is totally natural for you to do so

You did what you needed to do at the time. I am sorry it didn't work out for you at the time. But I don't think it's a blanket endorsement that we should let the predators win everytime.

You got to experience the mole and his being. You didn't save him, perhaps that wasn't your role. But he was allowed to die in a warm place without predator's jaws on his body. How can that be a negative?

The cat will go on to further prey. The question is will you accept that predators have the ultimate right to kill to survive and prosper without intervention?

I've done the same thing but with more positive results. And what I learned was that moles are very pretty animals with a purpose in life. I was lucky I intervened before the wounds were fatal. But I've also tried to save many jack rabbit babies only to see them die. But I never regretted trying.

the plant eaters are food for the meat eaters, the meat eaters are food for the plants. The circle of life.

Moles actually eat worms, cutworms and insects in the soil. They don't eat roots or plants. In fact they perform a very valuable service by aerating the soil and minimizing the damage done by cutworms. Sometime their actions can be claimed in the death of plants. They can be held responsible for the death of some plants when they undermine their root systems by creating air pockets, but more times than not they are controlling noxious pests that real gardeners should already be on top of.

Gophers on the other hand there's a new story. They do eat plants and roots.

Yeah, I dunno... your heart was in the right place, but it probably would have been more merciful to let the cat take it. I don't mean to make you feel bad, but trying to save the mole just prolonged its suffering :(

Just let nature do its thang next time...
