    hmm
My hairs been locked a handful of years, and i only just pulled out all my wraps and odd trinkets from here and there. A friend of mine made me a handful of pure copper spirals to wrap around a few dreads. Copper tends to have fantastic energetic benefits, at least i find so anyways. But now it has me wondering, will the copper leave green residue marks as it oxidizes on my dreads? I know i always had to be conscious about scrubbing off the green beneath copper jewelry, and wanted to know if someone had any experience in their dreads?

I gave my brother a cheap copper ring that turned my finger green, he put it on a dread and it did get green on it.

copper turns blue when it oxidizes, so 'cheap' unprotected copper can turn blue/green in air.

sorry to be a chemistry nazi but copper oxide is black (well copper(II) oxide is black copper(I) oxide is red), the green shit (verdigris) is a clusterfuck of other copper compounds but primarily copper corbonate. Copper is a pretty noble metal and thus is disinclined to oxidise.

Oh truely? that's rather fascinating, i hadn't actually ever paid much attention to metals, or chemistry for that matter, thanks for sharing that with me.

I'd be incredibly interested if you had a method or any ideas as how to keep it from discoloring. I already have enough odd splatters and colors to happily try avoiding any preventable ones.

When I First Started Making Toe Rings On My Lathe, I Made Them Out Of

    Copper And Brass.

    Toes Went Black Or Green..:(.

Ended Up Only Using Gold Or Stainless Steel...:)

Once The Hair Has Absorbed That Type Of Stain. I Doubt Any Washing

    Would Get It Out..:(.

    Cheers Glen.

EDIT:- Just Noticed This Is My 4000th Post..

Now that I think about it all them magma lights hair colous use metal salts, I can imagin the green stain being pretty permament.

Varnish would probably keep you clean.

... And here I thought this was a thread about getting hassles from the pigs, but oddly they did not confiscate the weed.

I coated the ring in clear nail polish when I used to wear it on my finger and that solved my problem.

    Until it peeled off.

I had a copper toe ring in my hair and it turned nasty looking green underneath. It washed out after a few weeks.
