Thinking of cutting the loose tips

So I was looking in the mirror today like I normally do when I noticed "hey, if I cut the loose tips off of these they'll look much dreadier". Because all of my dreads have formed and are seperated. There's no patches of undreaded hair, maybe a couple loose parts here and there but nothing bad.

Anyway, if I cut the loose part is it going to unravel the dread somehow? Should I cut most of the loose hair and leave a little bit just too be safe? Or is this a stupid idea that will fuck my hair up.

By the way when I say "loose hair" I don't mean hair that isn't dreaded, I mean the ends of the dreads that haven't locked yet... Hopefully that makes more sense... Although most of you guys probably already knew what I meant.

EDIT: I might cut one or two and then wait a week and see what happens, would that be better?

 

it will look stupid when u cut it because the ends will look like a straight line where u cut it.
i dont suggest doing it.

 

yeah don't cut. you can always tell someone who has trimmed their tips and i think it looks silly. but it's just another one of those personal things. up to you really.

i have some fairly long (up to 2") undreaded tips, very thin, and some of them are now starting to shrink up and dread. just give it time.

 

Only an idiot would cut it straight across lol.

And these hairs are different it's really hard to explain. The loose hairs at the end of my dreads are literally like the size of the strands of hair.

I just cut one of them and it looks 1000 times better. I'm not gonna do anymore for a week though. Just incase this one fucks up slightly. Althought I'm pretty sure it won't because I left like an inch of the loose part.

I did this to some of my tips that had blunted but still had only a few strands of straight hair. It looked a lot better and if you cut the hair so that it takes the shape of the dread it won't look as obviously.

 

You just described exactly what I did. I have like 5 dreads that are already going blunted which is fucking sick. I wish the other 40 (actually I don't even know how many I have) would catch up.

And yeah, I did a good job cutting. You can't even tell I did it.

Did it hurt your dreads at all?

I cut some loose tips off awhile ago and am now regretting it because my hair is shrinking so much and I feel that if I had left the loosey's be I would have a bit more length! So...I would say dont do it

 

Theyre your dreads man, If YOU think Its the right thing to do and are going to be happy with the result, then do It. Personally, I regret ever snipping any hairs on my head, they just grow back and irritate me.

 

I wouldn't do it.. just give them time. I like my loosies because it allows me to tie all of my hair back into a pony tail. no stragglers.

and since I started dreads I've been paranoid about losing hairs because I want them to be as thick and chunky as possible.. so the idea of cutting any hairs off kind of makes me sad.

 

Nope. They are the same as before but if your tips aren't really tight it may make a few more hairs come loose or stick out but you can re trim them. You can't even tell I trimmed them.

 

I accidentally cut two inches off of one of mine.
It looks neater, but is still just as loose as the other tips.

 

Bro, just checked your pics ... why don't you just rub them in your palms, not sideways obviously ... but just grab the end of the lock with one hand, between the thumb and index finger, and rub, with circular motions in the palm with the palm of the other had.

I did this and then ended up ripping off the resulting dingleberries cus they were stoopid... and berry dingly. Food for thought.

 

yeah man I just did that once and I was like "what the fuck it's like a berry". lololol.

Anyway I trimmed a quarter them so far and then TnR'd them to clean 'em up and now they're lookin' so much cooler. It's literraly a HUGE difference. I'm so much happier now.. Hopefully I can just leave them and not touch 'em for a few months now. Then I'll give 'er a fix up again.

I never thought about cutting the tips of mine.... but i did thumb roll some of the ends into the dread..... but i didn't do all of them because my lady friend likes the tails, she says they looks like octopus tentacles
