I can relate. I used to write, paint, and draw a lot more as a teen, but it was all angst ridden emo crap. Now as an adult I hold myself to higher standards and its difficult to start.

can identify with this, i too haven't written for a long time, but feeling the urges again.:)
guess we'll just have to dive in and see where it leads, it is easier though with a computer, even if we ramble on, can always be deleted and edited quickly enough.
in days past, everything was written long hand, with notes and papers etc. everywhere. at least i can be a 'tidy' writer now. :)
going to read some threads to get inspiration, but most of mine came from personal experiences when i was younger, poems about lost love, hurt, finding love again.........
but now, i'm going to be taking far more notice of my surroundings, what's happening round and about, spring's coming and there's so much to see and take wonder in, so guess that's where i'll start..maybe.

Shit, just write your ass off lol In all seriousness, if you aren't coming up with any ideas, just freewrite for awhile and an idea should pop up. Even if it doesn't, you'll at least be writing something.

Personally, as far as jumpstarting the process, I do two things. First, I observe people; having a collection of mental images of all the wacky fuckers you encounter can really spark your imagination. Second, I listen to a lot of music. I really dig having a specific song in my head, almost like a soundtrack for those people I've observed. Putting some music to those images in your head can highlight the little emotions that might give you a good story idea.

But for real, just write a lot. Once you get into the rhythm and routine of doing it, eventually you'll think up some shit that you'll want to write about.
