The other night i was leaving from one of my homies house, and i said merry christmas! And he "corrected" me by saying "actually its happy holidays" I just left without saying anything lol. To me happy holidays sounds offensive for all of us in the christmas spirit, it just doesn't feel christmassy when people say that, and the vibe gets ruined. Thats my opinion what do you guys think? :xmastree:
merry christmas is really only appropriate for xtians speaking to xtians. not that i'm the type to get their panties in a bunch over something so petty. still, i usually say happy holidays unless i know the person is celebrating christmas AND actual believes the faith behind it.
merry christmas is for christians , and holidays is politally correct , when i worked at walmart back in 2004 or 5 , they had just changed policy in walmart to happy holidays , many of my co workers were upset since we were in a very chrisitan orented town , but because of the policy change they had to say holidays . we did have a lot of muslim , asian indian , and other cultures that shoped at ourstore not for the fact it was walmart , but it was one of maybe 2 gorcs stores in the that part of the county . so yah . to me tho it doest matter , i practice native american indian ways and catholic ways and christian , and wicca all in a ecletic way
i think both are nice, i don't care which one people say to me, i always say happy holidays because well, not everyone celebrates christmas! it is as easy as that.
Not that I really care but I think in general unless you're speaking to a christian it should be happy holidays. Many people don't believe in Christ and as such we don't celebrate his birth. In my family since my wife and I are pagans we either say Merry Yule or Merry Alban Arthuan.
I like saying both, but I usually only say Merry Christmas. When I want to say Merry Christmas AND New Years then I say Happy Holidays
I wish you could say 'happy new year!' during the whole season the way people say 'merry xmas' the new year is really the only thing about this time of year with any ritualistic / emotional significance to me.
Ergh. "Happy Holidays" makes me flinch. I can't stand petty poltical correctness. No matter what someone wishes you, they are just trying to say that they hope you enjoy whatever holiday that you celebrate. If Merry Christmas offends you, get over it.
Merry Christmas because thats what the holiday is...im not Christian but thats the reason why we celebrate it..happy holidays is for the overly sensitive PC flock :cheers2: MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
