One out of Ten December 27, 2009 Miami New Times, a local free weekly did its end of year/end of decade by listing the Best Movies by its three critics (Scott Foundas, Robert Wilonsky, J. Hoberman). The only one of their pick of ten best flicks of the decade that I watched and enjoyed was Unbreakable and the only one of 2009 that I watched was Inglourious Basterds. I don't often agree with the professional movie critics as to what makes a good movie, mostly just going with what I enjoy which perhaps could be said that, "I enjoy bad movies." Also, I can't pick just one of anything. There are several disparate movies that are my favorites so I will list some that I particularly liked. Shale's Best of the Decade 2000 - Unbreakable, X-Men 2001 - From Hell 2002 - Y Tu Mama Tambien, Spiderman, Timeline 2003 - Underworld, Master and Commander - the Far Side of the World 2004 - King Arthur, I Robot 2005 - Brokeback Mountain, Kingdom of Heaven, Batman Begins 2006 - Shortbus, V for Vendetta, Casanova 2007 - 300, The Bucket List, Hannibal Rising, No Reservations 2008 - Iron Man, Twilight, The Day the Earth Stood Still Shale's Best of 2009 Avatar, Twilight/New Moon, Star Trek, Watchmen And, if really pressed to limit it to one, today I would say Avatar as best of the year and decade. What are your picks?
Well, that's a possibility (Don't let Hugh Jackman know my fantasies have been lookin elsewhere). Of course Worthington only shows his dreamy face, torso and thick arms in this movie - his legs are CGI atrophied.
I'm going to see Avatar at IMAX on monday, I'm really excited for it all of a sudden, I want to try out the whole 3D thing. I won't say what my favourite movies of the decade are, but two influential movies for me have been american psycho, and the beach.
Here's my list: No Country for Old Men Amelie Garden State Dead Man's Shoes Lost in Translation 28 Days Later Kill Bill Part 1 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Donnie Darko Team America: World Police
I saw Avatar, and loved it, great movie. It was like the theatrical embodiment of the kind of stuff I use to dream about when I was a kid. I could summarise it by saying it's dances with wolves, except more exciting and better to look at.
