I'm eryn, 23, been lurking a few weeks. graphic designing pays my bills, i give llama trecks/camping trips to the well endowed during the winter, and vend at music festivals throughout the summer months. I work with autistic kids sorta inbetween. My hairs been locked five, going on six years. i would have used wax in the beginning but was too poor and lazy to find some, so they're backcombed and ignored. I was living with my partner for a while and she needle felted a few of them, wasn't terribly partial to the results though. so, hello =]
glorified hiking, the llama carries all their gear and whatnot. its really only the better off that bother to shell out so much cash.
haha well, there certainly has been an increase of fake tits coming through lately. i really did mean in it the wealth sense though
Thanks? lol also since i cant message you ill ask you here..... what do you mean by.... social media is NOT A FAD! ????????????
Hi, I'm Mochyn. Student. English. Catholic. Good time girl Into Church history, herbs, Saint Benedict and Talking Heads. Had my dreads for nearly three years I think. Contemplating cutting them off next year but we'll see.
Hi, welcome to the forum. Many folks here, self included, would love to see some pictures if you've got em. Why are you thinking of cutting? Just time for a change?
sure... you can't see them in most pictures because I always have them up. I'm definitely getting rid next year some time for a few reasons. for a start they are hellish uncomfortable to sleep on and can be infuriatingly itchy. the only style I like them in (most of the time) is up in a tight bun or similar and that's been causing my scalp some pain recently. can't be good for my follicles. not to mention it takes the piss time wise just getting them into a half decent bun in the first place. it's a shame because when they're behaving I think they look lovely. but when they're being awkward I just hate them so so much and when they make my head sore I just think, y'know, it's not really worth going bald over lmao. but I do love having all these colours and beads in my hair and I know I will cry like a baby when I eventually decide to get somebody to cut 'em. real love/hate relationship thing going on.
Well cutey thanks for responding... wish I could see the locks a little better though. I guess sometimes they gotta go. I'm a little wary of the dread weight issue myself... when they get longer they are going to hold a lot of water and I think surfing with them is going to do a number on my neck/scalp
Welcome! I can really relate to all that! Mine pull on my scalp really badly. I really like how they're behaving though, and yours do indeed look gorgeous. I wear my hair down all the time though because it hurts to tie them up.
Hi everybody, I'm from Puerto Rico and have been thinking of growing my own dreads. I've been searching a WHOLE LOT and I ended up here finding very useful info from actual dreadies. I plan on starting my own journey with locks so I will be asking a lot of stuff about hair and advice for what to do about my family, I want to push them but not scare them to death with a knife while they sleep. You can also ask me anything if you think I'm able to answer. -Happy New Year to all!!!
Welcome! We're a friendly community and will try to answer all your questions with detail and accuracy. Don't be afraid to post lots of questions/threads about your dreadie issues/queries. Take it easy buddy. Cheers Enjoy ONE LOVE JAH BRAH'LY
Hi, THANX a lot for your reply, really fast!! <3 My main issues are this: 1) My mom and the rest of my family are very conservative, I'm not looking for approval, since I'm 21 and I don't even depend on them but I really don't want to get to my mom's and grandparent's house on the 1st stages of my dreads and get so overwhelmed by them that I cut them off. I'm prepared for that and I don't think of dreadlocks as a temporary thing. I know that they wont always look tidy and I don't care but I know they will. My mom even told me that she had never seen a girl with dreadlocks. 2) I have curly soft hair very conditioned since I like to wear my curls shiny and bouncy. So, Would it take more for them to lock? Should I try to make it any less conditioned? What method would achieve a better effect? I've read of Aloe Vera been nice, What does it does? 3) If I wear bands, wraps or hats in my newborn dreadlocks, would they feel it? I mean, would that have a negative impact on them? Sorry for my English, it's my second language. Thanks for being here!!! Happy New Year!!! eace:
My pleasure If you choose to sport the dreadlocks this is expected. Not everyone will share your views on dreads... whether its friends and/or family. No matter which method you use your dreads will look pretty hectic at the start. Perhaps explain this to them and show them photos of dreadlocks which are older and mature. So they know what to expect. A few dreadies here have ongoing blogs on there dreads... if your family saw this maybe it would soften the blow.... prepare em y'know? You want to stay away from shampoo's and conditioners which are anti-knot. This will slow if not completaly stop/ruin progress... look for natural "Residue free" shampoo. Organic shampoo's are generally pretty good. Some people (including me) only wash with water. It's quite effective and I've had great sucess with it. At first my hair was oily but over time the oils in your hair balance out. These shampoo's don't leave residue in your hair which causes knots to fall out... meaning the knotting will happen faster and be less likely to come undone. As for aloe-vera. It can be used to tame the frizzies. It's a bit like an alternative to wax but less nasty. From what I understand you need to use 100% aloe-vera gel. It holds down the crazy hairs and washes out easily. However... when growing dreads the frizz is unavoidable and aloe-vera gel is only a short term solution. Hard to answer. When I first started mine I wore a loose fitted woolen beanie 70% of the time. The texture of the wool rubs against the hairs and provokes knots. If you wear something tight it will restrict movement and thus slow down the progress of dreads. but its really up to you. Don't worry... your English is better then the majority of the people here.
Thank you very much for your complete answer! I have two other questions that come to my mind when I read your answers: 1) Does Aloe Vera has a long term impact on the dreadlocks? 2) Do you know the address to any of the blogs you mention? PS: What time is it where you are? Have a nice day. :troll:
1. A while ago a person posted that they had an aloevera plant growing out of one of there dreads.. but they used it heaps. But other than that no 2. PM Mamamojo for her blog. peace out mofo --Edit 5:23pm 3/01/2010
