An interesting article about a research paper on the effects of running shoes. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the original paper, but this article is on gizmag.com, an unusual place for such an article. http://www.gizmag.com/running-shoes-damaging-hips-knees-damage/13707/
Great article! Thanks. I run both with running shoes and barefoot. I get less knee and hip discomfort when running barefoot and I am able to run further before becoming fatigued. My primary reasons for wearing running shoes are temperature extremes and running along a road with heavy traffic that might suddenly force me onto a shoulder and I won't have had the opportunity to look and make sure there are no sharp pieces of metal where I will be stepping. The article suggests trying running in 5 Fingers (StraightToes will be in his element) but I am not able to do this in mine because occasionally one of the toe pockets comes off.
Here is a great article about barefoot running that was in the UK press before Christmas. Also about the new vivo footwear. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/health/article-23784560-ditch-your-trainers-and-run-barefoot.do It seems that barefoot running is thing for 2010! Lets hope so. Mo
