    Hello Dreadies.
I very much want to start growing some dreads of my own, but only have a couple obstacles in the way. First i guess i need to get he go ahead from my manager that i can do them, i work as a shift supervisor at CVS Pharmacy so a 'professional' appearance is supposed to be maintained, maybe he'll let me wear a hat though or something he likes me because i work hard.
If i can get the go ahead from work though i am all in! I have attempted dreadlocks once before when i was probably 15 or so. I went to some barber shop in Newark NJ and got my head all waxed )= I was young and didn't know any better. After a year or so (i didn't know you were supposed to wash and re wax so i kept the original wax in it and never washed it for a whole year haha i du-ragged(sp?) and spritzed it before bed every night as directed by the hairdresser lady.) i finally cut it off. Girls at school weren't diggin it lol and it looked silly cause my dumb hair was all highlighted and stuff.
So now i am older and have stumbled upon this awesomesauce forum of yours. It is giving me hope that i may be able to succeed with growing dread locks so long as i ditch the wax! I read through Luxie's thread and i wish mine could look just like hers! Although from looking at other threads hers are some of the prettiest fastest forming ones just from my couple hours of surfing at least. So i think i may end up trying tnr as she did, so long as i can find someone to help me as i know nothing about hair and ripping sounds confusing. I doubt that mine will end up like hers though, hers looked like dreadlocks from pic 1, how in the hell ya know?
The only question i have really is how long did you guys let your hair get before you started them? I'm so anxious and i know that i need to just hold my horses cause there aint nothing to dreadlocks but time, but i want to at least get them started but i don't think my hair is near long enough yet. People say they lock up to about half the length or so and that would leave me with little lockies. This is how long my hair is: (its down to my chin if i pull on it)

    how long should i wait?

My hair was a little bit shorter then that when I backcombed. They looked like little stumpy liberty spikes. Now my dreads are around touching my shoulders

Yeah i looked up a couple of your threads and yours look really good now. I was looking at 16mos i believe. I didn't find any pictures of how short yours were when you started? I just don't want them to look stupid cause they're too little.

Im Marthe, Marth Vader, Marth, Marthy or whatever you feel comfortable with.
Im a norwegian girl who dreams alot and wants to see the world.
About half of my head is covered with dreadlocks, and for the last two years, ive tried to find a way to get the rest of them. Guess im just a bit lazy.
Some of them were made the backcombing way, and some with pure neglect.
I hope to "finish the job" in a week or so.

I like to drink beer, dance, slacklining, knitting and other creative/circus related stuff.

    Have a nice day :)

Here's the hair, but not the face.

The easiest way is to just let it dread. If you pull it back a lot make sure you don't get the dreaded giant dread. Unless you want that.

Yep just rip to prevent a uni dread. Wash like normal too. It'll look messy as hell for a while but the end results a year or two later are amazing.

Once your head gets chunky enough you will probablly have to blow dry or your hair will get that dank basement smell (not the good dank). Check out the drying thread going on right now. Fat dreads will take days to dry on their own.

You know, I have fat dreads and they take around 13 hours to dry. When they were younger they took over a day to dry. I find this really odd.

Odd. It always seemed like when I thought my hair was dry I would give it that whip thing (you know) and water would come out.
Less time the better. You lucked out on that one hdh!
Scince were in tell us @ yourself, I dreaded for @ 3 1/2 years, had to rip apart my unidread + got musty basement smelling dreads at first. I got them cut 2 years ago. It will be nice if i ever get to dread with hair from super short so dumb hair cuts don't make the lenths all choppy.
