idea for bulk grow (will this work)

my basic idea is to use a large, wide plastic box and hook it up to an electric air humidifier.

The entire bottom of the box will be a mycelium/coco coir cased cake, so no perlite or tin box casings, just one big layer of mycelium and coco coir filling up the entire bottom of the box.

The humidifier would take care of the humidity, temperature and air exchange, and i can just kick back and relax.

This idea seems like it would work. My only worry is whether or not I need drainage for the mycelium, which could easily be resolved by using a separate tray for the mycelium suspended inside the box with small holes in the bottom for drainage.

Does this seem like a good idea?

 

Unless you are using the biggest tub in the store, then you won't need a humidifier. A normal monotub will sustain a good humidity. I wouldn't recommend the drainage holes, the tubs need a little extra water once in a while. Thats why tubs are misted. Holes in the bottom may help your tray contaminate. If you go with this plan just put your substrate in a trash bag liner into the tub. You would be better off monitoring your tub and figuring out what kind of cycle to put the humidifier on, using a timer. That way you will have good humidity, but not excess moisture pools.

I would not recommend the setup you are planning unless you have a lot of spawn to experiment with or are a seasoned cultivator.
A normal monotub works great.

 

Yeah, man, you want a monotub. Its simple, easy and has great yields, if it isnt the most stealthy thing in the world.

IMO, the only reason to ever need a humidifier for Cubensis is if youre running a Martha. Otherwise, a monotub or shotgun FC will suffice.

If you ever wanna do Pans, though, youll need one.
