Batio is no more of a trick pony than vai, satch, malmsteen, buckethead maybe even becker, or any other proclaimed neo classical virtuoso. It is what is it. Sure, they can play fast, or slow, and sound quite capable in their genre, but if you put any of them up beside Ron Jarzombek and tell them to play progressive technical death metal with a touch of psychedelic and you'd see neoclassical guitarists getting a lesson. Don't believe me? Listen to Blotted Science.

For rock guitarists, the guys in skynyrd, and luke rayner from Leaf hound are good ones to keep in mind.

Beck is probably the best ive ever heard.

hendrix was a genious and inovator and if hed been around longer hed be my fav but Beck has created some of the greatest guitar music ive ever heard.

Clapton and Page are both good but to be honest Im not a big fan of their music, Led Zep are one of the most over rated band sive ever heard (cue lots of outraged replies?) and Clapton was awesome in Yardbirds and Cream but his solo stuff sucks ass.

Gilmore is amazing at what he does he makes his guitar sing, its not all about speed like some people, he can say in one note what others cant say in 20.

Love Joe Satch too, much better than Steve Vai who although technicaly talented has no soul to his music what so ever.

I love Slash and Harrison, as theyre the guitarists from my 2 favourite bands but there is better at what they do out there.

Id like to add Shenker, Ulu Roth, Brian May, Tony Iommi and Buckethead to the list aswell

How the hell did you leave out randy Rhodes? He was the fucking greatest guitarist of all time, but after him I guess jimi hendrix...

Aww, it's been three years and Yngwie still hasn't gotten any vote! :( I wish you were allowed to vote multiple times because I'd definitely vote for him, too(I voted for Satch).

Actually, if anything this thread should not have been made a multiple choice poll in the first place. Everyone has their own favorite guitarists, so having a limited set of guitarists to choose from is a bit pointless. I mean, look how many people have mistaken this thread for a poll to determine which guitarist is "the best" in rock n' roll, LOL. If this was a poll about the greatest rock n' roll guitar player, then the list should be MUCH bigger so guys like Chuck Berry(and I'm surprised no one had mentioned his name until I did just now!), Santana, EVH, Angus Young, and many others, would all be included as well.

Some people will prefer Hendrix over Page, or Angus Young over Keith Richards. Some will prefer flashier players like Vai over a minimalistic Andy Summers. But they are essentially ALL great in terms of their musical accomplishment.

I picked George Harrison i think he's underrated as a guitarist, i think Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton are the most capable guitarists.

I voted David Gilmour as well. Some of those guys are definitely more proficient but Gilmour's playing is alot more memorable and has more emotion behind it than say Yngwie Malmsteen. Hendrix is very close but sometimes he completely overshadows the band at times as where Gilmour's playing seems to fit the tone and pace of every song.
