im a non dominational christian im very religious but def not a bible thumper and def dont take everysingle word of the bible as serious as some ppl i have very strong beliefs but got them on my own becuase i was raised wothout religion
Been attending a Christian Science Church and it is pretty interesting. But I am not sure if I'd consider myself anything really.
i was raised going to a 'born again' baptist church and school left both by age 14 and doubt i would ever go back - i have no problem with jesus and try to emulate his archetype but i hate any kind of 'i'm right and everyone who thinks differently is wrong' kind of attitude these days i do a lot of crystal work, including large mandalas for music festivals and this kind of work brings for me the most spiritual focus and reward. all gaian modes of wisdom appeal to me mostly, i guess that's neo-pagan if you wanna put a name on it but i don't know if that really resonates with me as far as a belief outline, how i feel about spirit is too complex for language to describe. the simplest way i'd put it is that i believe in the divinity of all living things as manifestations of the divine itself
I guess I would describe myself as spiritual. I believe in some sort of universal energy... but not in any sort of human-like "God" I guess if I worship anything I worship nature. My dreads are not tied to any religious beliefs in the slightest.
It means pragmatic + catholic. Id say as opposed to dogmatic catholic but being catholic requires a bit of dogma so meh. I don't believe the bible is literal truth because I think its a far cleverer book if it isn't. I'd insert some points about evolution and the earth being 6k year sold but I think thats a bit of a special case for america, I don't know anybody who seriously doesn't believe in evolution.
I never want to rule out religion, and will be happy to be proved wrong regarding everything I have ever said. Some religions, thought not all seem to be extremely positive and tranquil, so on that note I would also consider myself agnostic.
thanks zilla for the explanation on agnostic! I can relate to those views through Buddhist eyes... As the Dalai Lama said...."We are not closed off to the idea that a God does or does not exist....if somebody showed tangible proof of a God I would believe and readjust my life accordingly." Okay so that wasnt a verbatium quote...but it was too that effect. lol.
I wasn't raised in a particularly religious home, but spent a couple years playing in a youth church worship band. Then I ate mushrooms. Now I can't really pin down what I believe, because I can contradict almost anything I say lately and still agree. I guess I just believe that perspective is everything, and I am constantly searching for more points of view to expand my paradigm. I would say that "god" is in everything, and it is a persons interaction with god that creates reality (which is kind of inspired by ideas of quantum physics). I really don't like dogma, or religion of any kind, but I find great wisdom and knowledge in the metaphors that are taught as truth. I also consider science in the same light as christianity or other religions; both searching for meaning, finding it in metaphor, and then (usually) teaching it as ultimate truth. So on the whole, I just don't like to be told what to think. I think that humanity on the whole functions as a major part of natures "sensory system" which it uses to become more self-aware and thus evolved. As in a feedback loop with our "higher self". I believe that we are all simply different perspectives of a whole. That we project our experiences as an external "hologram" so that we can experience them objectively, even tho they are just a part of us. Just talking to myself as usual... or is it you?
That's cool. This kinda stuff resonates a lot with me too. I do think that "energy work" can be done anywhere, with anything, but I like all the "neo-pagan" stuff. Possibly because I am a huge fantasy nerd
i started collecting them years ago just because i like them, and found that the more i had them around the more they started coming through in my dreams in interesting ways, so i started to research 'new age' ideas about crystals and doing meditations with them and have found them incredibly helpful tools for releasing blockages and opening me up in more and more ways to love and guidance from source or 'god' or whatever 'it' is robert simmons' two books 'the book of stones' and 'stones of the new consciousness' have beautiful explanations of how we can work with stones and minerals and of the vibrational energies carried by different stones
I think organized religions are generally wrong about everything they teach/preach, but at least they give people a chance to fulfill their human need for social interaction. Because of that, I'm not one to just outright condemn religions.. Everyone should be free to be as wrong as they want... Personally, I believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I think my hair has less than nothing to do with my religious beliefs(or lack thereof). Some sort of hypothetical negative amount of association needs to be invented to accurately describe it..
you > thousands of philosophers and theologians working for thousands of years God I love the modern world.
