I never said that blogs are reputable news sources, and of course the news is going to be inaccurate--it usually reflects the best interest of the government and military. Something like this is a real rarity to see in the news. It needs to be seen. The truth needs to be known.

As for this being "their fault"--you've got to be kidding. As has been stated already, the US went in there, they wanted to play hardball, so you can't complain when the Iraqis come up with tactics to gain some sort of advantage when faced by an superior foe. Like I said, you'd do the same things they're doing if the rules are reversed. The thing is, a wounded unarmed man is not a legitimate target. And it's very clear from the video what the situation was in there--there was no justification for what happened. None.

I'm not saying that the insurgents are noble freedom fighters. Who knows what kind of system they prefer. But the fact of the matter is that their country has been invaded, and they're doing what you would do under the circumstances. Right? Or would you just loaf around say if China invaded the US under the pretense of removing the dictator Bush and freeing the American people?

China wouldn't invade the US. And if it did, im sure the military would take care of it. Im sure civilians wouldn't come up in arms seeing the way 50% of yall have responded. Im sure yall would sit idle and watch us do our thing. And when we got caught on video doing what were trained to do yall would bitch about us being too cruel.

You really think that the U.S. military could deal with the Chinese?! LMFAO. You've got to be kidding. Look at what a couple of thousand untrained, poorly equipped "insurgents" are doing. Killing 50-100 and wounding 700 per month. China could mobilize how many million? If they wanted to invade, they could, and the only way your military could deal with them is by using nukes, and laying waste to the country in the process.

Doing what they were trained to do? Do they really teach these guys how to kill wounded, unarmed prisoners? Wow!

Notice how the incident is getting NO coverage anymore. Meanwhile, were it an American soldier that had been executed, we'd never hear the end of it about how it.

Its not a matter of mobilizing, its a matter of effectivly getting them over here. They dont have the means. And we have plenty of missiles to shoot them down in the case of an attempt.

You're right, theres no way any single army could defeat the American military on it's own ground. But if the Chinese started a fight and drew the Americans into their territory....

I denfintely know that we would shit our pants if another country invaded us. Maybe about that time we would all realize what it is like to be in the position of the Iraqi's.

We are all pretty spoiled over here.

Fortunately, that's not how it works in the US. The US military answers to civilian authorities, and it shouldn't be any other way.

That said this Korean story is crap. So what if some people protest? The point is, do the majority of Koreans want us to leave? No. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Korea/FJ01Dg01.html It seems like the attitude here is that unless we are universally loved, we should immediately pack up and go home, regardless of the fact that the majority wanted us there, and ignoring the very real threat that North Korea poses.

    Thank you...

What i was trying to say earlier though, is that the people need to let the military handle their own people.

Not now, but certainly within 20 years their military will probably be as technologically advanced as that of the U.S. I used the example of an invasion of the U.S. as an example; it's not the most logical thing to do, although I think that it is very possible. The most likely scenario is that they'd wait for the U.S. to bleed itself dry chasing cave-hopping terrorists around the Middle East and then assert itself in that region. What with it adopting a Western-style economic system, China will have to adopt a Western-style foreign policy to ensure that it has access to resources that are already becoming scarce.

I just wanted to throw up an announcement that Kevin Sites, the gentleman who shot the footage of the incident, has posted Open Letter to Devil Dogs of the 3.1 . He's the embedded journalist who's been with the unit for quite some time. Prior to our current state of communication it was rare that a photographer/journalist ever got to speak his piece. Check it out:

What are you retarded? Haven't you seen the video tape? It's pretty evident that just about any sane person wouldn't have reacted to the situation the way that Marine did.

Here is what I think on the issue...we have our youngest men there, nervous, anxious, angry, and probably with too little training to be out there. I don't blame the person that shot him near as much as I blame the whole attitude and structure of the military. It isn't our best and brightest we have on the ground out there, ya know.

Our soldiers are out there in a foregin country, with a culture they have likely had no exposure to, languages they don't speak, and fighting an enemy that isn't a military body, not wearing uniform, and not knowing who is a civilian or insurgent. These guys don't know who to hate out there, so they likely hate everyone, or at least every man.

That person never should have been shot, and our guys should have the proper training and expertise to be able to make smart, rational, logical decisions rather than being run by their emotions, which I assume most likely happened in this case.

Let's say that many of the soldiers are young 18 year olds, who have no real life experience, much less any combat experience. Is this who we want fighting our wars? It's just another MASSIVE illogical insanity that America has going on, but no one seems to notice or give a shit. Anyway, they are the victims of our government, so I hope they come back and direct their anger in the proper place.

The thing is, as much as I'm horrified and indignant over this crime, I know full well that this is commonplace in war. The problem that I have is that the Americans have always made themselves out to be good and better, and that they are somehow incapable of committing war crimes. The other day I saw a news clip where Rumsfeld was going on about "precision strikes" and soldiers conducting themselves in accordance with the rules of war. He's full of shit, and he knows it; the sad thing is, there's so many ignorant or idealistic flag-waving patriotic Americans who are so willing to believe him for the sake of a peaceful nights sleep. Why can't the Americans accept the fact that they have bad apples too, that some of their soldiers are going to commit war crimes, and that these men have to be punished accordingly. Trying to defend such acts just adds to the resentment that people in the Middle East feel towards Americans, thus undermining the cause that America is supposedly there for in the first place.

This is just a feeble attempt at a "universal equivalence" argument. US soldiers commit war crimes, insurgents commit war crimes, therefore they both commit war crimes and there are no good guys.

The thing is that the US military has a code of conduct, US soldiers are expected to follow that code of conduct, and will be punished for not upholding that standard, as they have been in Abu Gharib for example.

Many insurgents group leaders, on the other hand, have explicitly and specifically chosen to encourage war crimes as a matter conscious choice, and their followers carry out such acts willfully, knowingly, and publicly. Obviously, punishment is not possible because they recognise no crimes.

Still, for those still desperately trying to romanticise the resistance, the option of "universal equivalence" represents an easy way to avoid this reality.

I don't justify this with "universal equivalence." I say that this is the direct FAULT of the United States for committing a massive war crime by invading Iraq in the FIRST PLACE. Having a "code of conduct" doesn't much matter if you don't even follow the most basic international standards when you decide to wage war in the first place. When Bush invaded Iraq, all bets were off. How can ANYONE blame the Iraqi fighters for not following "rules of war" in a war that was ILLEGAL from the start? The US has set the standards here - and it continues to do so by ignoring human rights, the Geneva Convention, rules of war, and the will of the Iraqi people.
