I've only been posting on hip forums for a few weeks, but I was kind of sad to see all the hostility that my fellow hippies have. I am part of the younger hippie generation and I am sort of ashamed to be part of such negativity. I posted an innocent question on here about the problems that the barefoot hippies encounter in Florida. But instead of a kynd discussion, it turned into a heated battle. Other hippies actually started cutting me and another Australian guy down simply because we don't like to wear shoes. I don't understand why people on Hip (formerly Hippie) Forums are actually cutting down other hippies for not wanting shoes? That's like me telling other hippies not to smoke pot or not to wear any tye dyed clothing. Makes no sense to me. It's all part of the hippie lifestyle. It's about freedom, eco-friendliness and non-materialism. Where is all of this hostility coming from?
1) there is no requirement that you must be a "hippie" to post here. you just need access to the internet. 2) being a hippie isn't about following a specific dress code. that is literally the opposite of what a true hippie would want you to do. you say it's "about freedom," but how is it freedom if you're forced to follow a specific trend to a tee?
It is the internet people feel it is their opportunity to be douches cause they know you can't bitch slap them like you would IRL for talking to you that way
^This, basically... People will go through their paces... how you process what you cannot change is your choice. Take it personally and you'll be hurt by it.
This is true, but you what reason would I have for posting things on a Republican Forum or (as a dude) posting on a woman's only forum? This is supposed to be Hip (Hippie) Forums. Part of the (hippy.com) website. You are absolutely right. There are some hippies who wear tye dye and some don't. Some hippies wear sandals, and others don't wear shoes at all. Some are into Christianity, others are into Hinduism. There is no set of strict rules. Only that you have an open mind and let others enjoy the freedoms they discover in life. You are one of the main people this thread is aimed at, since you started a flame war on the other forum. You called me and the Australian dude MORONS just because we don't like to wear shoes. There are lots of hippies who enjoy the freedom of going around barefoot. What is your reason for harshing on us for that? It seems a very petty thing to abuse people for.
It's a huge forum, and it doesn't really have much to do with hippies in actuality. Mostly it just ends up meaning that the majority of people here hold extreme left-wing political views.
well, there's always trolling, for one. more importantly, discussing things with people who have different viewpoints from your own is a great way to both learn things about other people, and to tell other people about your ideas. how boring would it be posting on a forum where everyone agrees about everything? you didn't read my arguments. admittedly, i had been drinking at the time and could have probably worded my posts a little less harshly, but my point was still made. i specifically said that i also don't like to wear shoes. clearly, i'm not saying that you're a moron for not liking to wear shoes. my point is, basically, that they're just fucking shoes. wear them if you want, don't wear them if you want. i don't see why certain "hippies" feel the need to turn barefooting into their great cause. there's plenty of real issues to concern yourself with, and the fact that not everyone follows the same silly little trend as you do is not one of them. a large part of being a hippie is supposed to be about non-conforming, yet so many "hippies" adhere to this strict dress code for fear that they may not be conforming enough to the hippie standard. also, i never called anyone here a moron. all i said is that the average person perceives hippies as morons, and that the barefoot nazism shown by certain hippies is part of the reason for that. you, then, jumped to the conclusion that i was attacking you.
this thread - pure awesomeness OP - if you were a true hippie, you'd not give a shit about the reactions you got. since you have, well...yea, you probably should get a pair of shoes and learn to walk to your own beat
Jamie - there are thousands of people on this forum - because someone claims to be a hippy means very little if they do not have a hippy slant on life. Many will simply try to burn you because they can. There are many, many who are hippies in the best sense of the word. If they are giveing you a lot of grief abut the way you dress they probably have no experience in and have never lived a hippie like life. I'm 62 and lived throught the 60's and 70's and have tried to uphold peace and love and compassion and understanding. Please don't let a few psuedo hippies spoil your opinion of Hip Forums. There are many of us out there and it is obvious that you belong. I could give you a list of many of them that I have met on the forum. Hippies don't show hostility toward that kind of personal choice, not at all. Check out some of the hippie forums. Peace and Love - Dudley.
Oo it's best to ignore the children, in RL there pathetic, this is the only place they can get away with putting someone down.. Peace
maybe you should do some research and read the thread the kid's whining about before jumping on his side in every duplicate thread he posts... the barefoot kid isn't pathetic, just a little confused.
