Wow, you are totally speaking my language! If would be impressed if I could see someone live without taking a life, but I doubt it will ever happen.
I don't think it is possible at all, not if you are considering all life. If you are making distinctions between life forms, then how is that any better then what anyone does? It just becomes a matter of where you place the arbitrary line of what is okay to kill and whats not.... To me... the only distinction that is required is that you don't kill anything unnecessarily or for sport and you try to make sure you don't cause any unnecessary hardship during their life. I once had someone tell me, in regards to a community they were starting that they weren't allowing any meat products on the property at all, and didn't want anyone there if that person was going to continue to eat meat, because it would bring an aura of death to the place... I laughed my ass off at that, as they went their merry way killing all sorts of plants and insects and such, because killing them is okay... lol
I'm the same. I have told my parents that I will never go home again to see them if they cut doen the trees in the garden - good old threats! I always hate people thinking they can do whatever they like to nature - the trees were there first before the stupid people built there house or whatever. I always give people a evil stare when they cut down trees.
If thats the case, get off that computer, give all your clothes and belongings away and move to the forest with nothing that isn't growing around you, because your whole life is based upon people doing exactly that. Unless of course you are alright with you being a hypocrite...
Most people are perfectly alright with it. Do people not realize that using a computer, driving a car, buying food at the grocery store and many many other things are far more damaging to the planet than cutting down a tree or two? I try to limit the resources that I destroy, and I am willing to fight to protect the old growth forests around here and try to buy only local products. But I accept that no matter how hard I try, I will still be destroying other life. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
If they don't realize it, it is because they choose not to. If they do realize it, they hope nobody will call them on it. If someone does call them on it, they'll make tons of excuses as to why it is okay in their case. The only sensible option is to live your life in as balanced of a manner as possible. Realizing that we (humans) are a part of nature, and not an interloper into it. Just like wolves, dolphins, ants, trees, flowers and all the rest are a part of it. Moose will knock down trees, bears will damage or kill them by marking their territory by cutting marks into the trees. Not to mention the horrendous damages they cause just by walking. I know... lets destroy everything so nothing else can destroy anything else... Balance is the key, not total avoidance.
A hypocrite because I don't think people should continue cutting down trees to build on the land? If you don't agree with something, that doesn't mean that you run away from the people doing it- you have to make your voice heard. If you hate the way the government is running the country, so you run away or try and make a stand and change things?
A hypocrite, because you "give people an evil stare" and threaten them for doing things that allowed our society to develop to the point where you can do all these things that you are now taking advantage of.
It's not hard to grow a new tree. It is hard to find land to build small families homes on in some areas of the country.
next the dude will be talking about crack and death. Ya never know if he's kidding... Come on, man. Nature is divinity, truth, reality. Not superior in any way to the human race, but still, as it pertains to cutting down trees for a living... learn to type
I want one of these people to explain to me how they plan on living their life never harming one tree.
And humans are a part of nature, as much as we try not to admit it. Our life is overshadowed by one fact. Our deaths. This is true for all things. Anicca. @ antithesis, yes I want to live in arcata, mostly because now I live in chico, and most of the people here I am not able to relate to. I seem to have a resonance problem I yearn for the redwoods and the ocean, both of which are severely lacking in chico. Oh, and people who aren't all about getting fucked up every night. But I'll probably be moving back to the bay area before I move to arcata, to help my moms with her financial problems.
I used dozens of tree carcases at work today; I was speaking (typing) colloquially. Living harmoniously with the environment and using resources responsibly is a good thing, but your metaphysical beliefs are irrelevant.
The evil stare was actually kind of a joke - I don'#t agree with it, but don't stalk them and stare at them. And again the threat is a playful one to my parents, telling them that they should leave the trees in the garden alone but they are not harming anything - it's not like I will never see my parents again about it!
I am not one of those people who believe a tree feels pain etc, I belive in sustainability. I try to buy paper products that have either been recycled or new trees have been planted in their pace. I don't however agree with all of nature being chopped down to keep building on the land. Near me they are planning on moving a perfectly good school onto a green belt area - for no real reason. And then destroying a nature reserve and "developing" a new one further away, all to build an extra swimming pool next to a perfectly good leisure centre whcih has three pools already and to be fair there is never a time I have been there that you might think there is no room in the pool, another should be built. I don't think anything like that makes sense.
