The idea of the bible as being the word of God..

    To be quite laughable.

Why you reading from a dead book for a live God?

I've read it from cover to cover.

And you call the story of sodom and ghommorra a story of good?

And the bible is extremely corrupted, in my opinion. And there's two separate and conflicting religions in it.

    Fucking lizards...

No, I mean the wrathful, destructive god of the old testament, and the god of love and compassion generally associated with the new testament.

The only thing I can think of to explain this discrepancy is..

    Aliens.

    that omniscient "thing" right ?

just wondering have you ever considered the fact that the people of the bible [old testiment] didnt have the bible to reference to?
so the way god [or gods] talked to them [or the way they thought] was through disasters and all the crazy phenomina.

now as we are living in the new testiment we have the reference. of which we conceive the bible as the method of choice for god to talk to us.

    The bible is words.

    Nothing more.

God doesn't need the bible to "speak with us."

    God is a personal relationship.

One that doesn't need a middleman.

    Or middlebook.

And her actions would be consistent, seeing as we are all a part of her, the Goddess. Why would she destroy a part of herself?

And the bible doesn't make you a "good" person.

    Also, I'm not a Christian.

My God is all of creation.

    Including myself.

saying the bible is only words is like saying a person is only cells.
the bible doesn't make a good person, it shows a way how to be a good person and even gives a reason why. its up to the person to choose to be a good person.

considering the physical laws of conservation nothing is ever really destory, it only changes form.
in my google search it appears the cities of sodom and ghommorra actually existed and were actually destroyed.

if you need a reason why consider the measage.
the wicked cities were made example of and smited.
being a bad person doesn't sit well with god therefore don't be a bad person in tern making a few less bad people.

and like i implied, the bible is like a reference book like a dictionary.

Yes, thank you for making my point.

But the danger is when someone beLIEves that it is the Truth.

The bible was written by man, for man.

Which is the idea of this thread.

No, I just don't understand how people can take it as the living word of god, when its simply a book.

I don't have anything against people who benefit from the bible, I myself have benefitted.

But I think that that should be kept in mind, that they are stories, and nothing more.

Haven't enough people died for religion?

exactly. and there definitely are a good amount of people who benefit from the bible.. but there are a good amount of people who benefit from a lot of different things.

and the way I see it whether the bible is the word of god or just a storybook, we all have our opinions and there is no way for us to know for sure.

If it is not the word of God, it can't be corrupted either.
That there are two diametrically opposed view points expressed, is an astute observation.
