OK, this is a spill over from another thread. Someone jokingly suggested that we have a "war" or at least a great debate on going barefoot in public as opposed to wearing shoes. It seems that there are lots of hippies who don't like shoes, but there are an equal amount of people who are misinformed about the barefoot lifestyle. For example: There are no health laws for public places or motor vehicle laws in any state that require you to wear shoes. How many of you hippies go barefoot every chance you get, and how many of you feel like you have to wear shoes all the time and also why?
As for me, I am a beachbum hippie who hasn't owned shoes for at least 2 years. I go to school, work, and everywhere else barefoot. Why? I don't know, I guess I have never really seen a point to wearing shoes other than making a fashion statement. I just think it's more hippie-like and eco-friendly not to own any. I am also happy that I am not supporting child slave labor of the big name shoe companies.
well i'm far from being a hippie, but i'll answer the question anyway. sometimes i wear shoes and sometimes i don't. it's mostly seasonal; i'm not about to walk around barefoot in the snow. i've done it, and it is not comfortable. in the summer, i mostly just wear shoes to work, due to the dress code, or if i'm going into town, due to the presence of broken glass and whatnot. i also tend to wear shoes if i'm going into the woods, ever since i got that giant thorn stuck in my toe as a child.
ah, i forgot about another situation: sports. i did run one track meet barefoot back in high school, and it made approximately no difference to my times. in football on the other hand, i probably would have lost my feet if i hadn't worn shoes. edit: not to mention, i would have fallen down a lot.
oh yeah..and I cant bushwhack with no shoes on..plus the rattlesnakes would have a easy time, my feet would be like meat on a stick
i don't like wearing shoes. but sometimes my feet are too cold or too ugly for people to look at. so i wear shoes.
also, the entire concept of there being a "movement" or following for being barefoot is excruciatingly ridiculous to me.
i'm just gonna say.. this is like arguing over to wear a hat or not... personal preference and nothing more.
Yeah, for one thing i'm in the snow, you would have to be retarded not to wear shoes on ice. Another thing, it makes me feel like i'm normal, my feet don't get cold, I don't have to step in things that I don't want to waste my time looking out for, I just put on my shoes and get shit done.
