Through the years I've become obsessed with a few bands - first there was Pink Floyd, then Phish. After Phish broke up it wasn't even enjoyable for me to go to shows because well, they weren't Phish. No one was. Until last summer...

I had my ticket for STS9 at Red Rocks. Never done acid before, never done molly. Everyone told me to get ready, as your first time with STS9 is lifechanging. I took 3 hits of acid and 3 doses of molly (yes, I know that's a lot) and it was the most incredible experience of my life. It would be useless to try and explain it in words. It was a complete perspective-changer for sure...I felt like for so many years I've been in a deep sleep and the real me was awakened for those hours.

Yes, I was on drugs, but I get the same sort of feeling when I listen to them on CD while sober. I now listen to STS9 obsessively. And pretty much the same tracks (Heavy, Lo Swaga, Breathe in, Somesing). I don't know if it's healthy or not, but I can listen to those 4 tracks on repeat until the day I die.

Anyone else get totally sucked into the cult that is STS9?

I like sound tribe a lot and have seen them a couple of times. I gotta say that there are better bands within the same genre though (Disco Biscuits, lotus, etc.) IMO

Hmmm... matter of opinion i guess

I've seen Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Lotus and STS9 was waaaay better live. I was on coke at STS9 but it obviously wore off somewhere in their set and drunk at Lotus but i sobered up in their set and STS9 has a better vibe to me. Maybe if i was on the 'right' drugs i would have a different opinon.

Somesing is an amazing piece of music.

If Shpongle ever plays live in the states i have a feeling they will make all those bands look lame by comparison.

^ dude I'm from Buffalo. Yeah I think I remember you saying you're from WNY. Yeah Thusday in the square is great. Free shows you can't beat that. Saw the disco biscuits last summer there. You ever go to shows in B-lo? Some good shit coming here lately and soundlab is cool as shit too..tons of underground music

Zilla is the best man. Praang too...

you might also look into some straight up electronic stuff like Heyoka, VibeSquad, Nalepa, Deru, Kilowatts, Skeetaz, Bluetech, etc...
