The recommendation thread

Ok. Let's try something out here. We'll use this thread for recommending shit. If someone asks for a certain genre you guys post some shit you think is good... Pretty straightforward.

Anyway, anyone got some nice Thrash/Death metal bands they could tell me about? Even if it's slightly more modernized I'll give it a try. Although shit from the late 80's to the mid 90's has been awesome so far.

Jungle Rot? I dont even know if their metal to be honest...their ok.

 

Also the Japanese Sabbat is really good black/thrash. so fucking dirty, so good. THere's also early Sepultura if you haven't gotten around to that. I only have Schizophrenia but it's one of my favorite thrash albums.

For the cream of the crop of "nu thrash" (ie the bands who were doing it before it blew up), check out the Witches Brew roster. There's a ton of good thrash bands on there, or bands that were on there at one point, like Gama Bomb.
I was never too into thrash. You might like Dark Angel. Darkness Descends is one of the most brutal thrash albums. I've only heard a handful of songs from the albums that came out after. they were more technical and in some respects more interesting.

 

This is perhaps a little much on the death metal side, but you might like Maim - it's old-school death metal with a little thrash influence here and there.

Also you should already know about Toxic Holocaust but if you don't then listen to them, I guess.

and the Japanese Sabbat have been mentioned, but don't overlook the British Sabbat either. They're very thrash.

also Atheist are really well known for their jazzy death / thrash, but their first album Piece of Time is the most straightforward.

You mean Piece of Time, right? Anyways, Atheist are awesome. I recommend their album Unquestionable Presence.

I second Darkness Descends, one of the greatest thrash albums ever. Also, anything by Morbid Saint, Dekapitator's We Will Destroy, You Will Obey for thrash.

For death metal, fuck, there's so much goodies from that period. Malevolent Creation, Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness, Hail of Bullets, Unleashed, Bloodbath. Theres just so much. Check out anything Dan Swano's been in.
