I know this has probably been brought up in the past, but since college classes just started last week, I am wondering how many others go to school totall barefoot (without bringing shoes along). In my experience, if you don't want to wear shoes to school and you wonder what people will think, it's best to just go barefoot from DAY ONE. People who've never seen you will most likely ask 1000 questions, but after about 2 weeks people just realize that no matter how hard they stare they are never going to see anything on your feet and it just becomes commonplace to everyone in your classes.
OK but how many people "currently" go to school barefoot everyday. If so, does anyone give you problems and do people look at it negatively or positively?
i go to school with shoes, but i walk around outside barefoot most of the time. i bring some moccasins, most places i go. in case of emergency, especially since i live in chicago. its a dirty city:/
I attend graduate classes and am a graduate teaching assistant. I started this semester barefoot from day one. (I was barefoot full-time starting spring semester, too - but this semester from day one!) Some professors give me weird stares like - maybe - where did that come from? You know, since it's my third year in grad school and all and it's a change. One of them told me that I'd get the flu. (Well, I might, but from my neighbor's children who are hacking all the time, not from my bare feet.) But no negativity about it. My students don't even care. They've never asked me about it. I suppose it's because they're nervous freshmen.
I went thru undergrad school barefoot. Earned my MA barefoot. Got my teaching credentials barefoot. Now I teach barefoot. No problem with that. I teach at an all-boys private boarding school. Some (a few) of the boys that were in my classes last year started from day 1 of this new school year barefoot . Hugz Bobby
I started barefoot on day 1. In the past, I've done some classes with flip flops and then maybe the 2nd or 3rd barefoot and in others I've started barefoot. At this point, I am intending to do every class barefoot until at least the end of September.
I went barefoot one day to school... didn't go to good got three days dentention for "dress code violation"
I never really got the courage to do this at school. I did sometimes remove my shoes at my desk, but I never got up and walked around school barefoot. In college I know I could probably get away with it but I'm still shy.
I do it quite often (high school) and not many people say anything, cuz they think i'm wearing flip flops or something. It's probably because I wear pretty long pants lol! but you know, it's against the dress code here, so i bring along some flip flops.
I started a part time residential course a couple of years back (6 weekends a year) and have been to every weekend barefoot. The first couple of weekends, I did get a few questions, but since then no-one really cares. It's part of who I am and the way I live, so just do it
When I started college I got so many questions, compliments, or grossed out looks. I have never worn shoes to school since day one, so by now everyone is just used to it and rarely do people even give my bare feet a second look. As a matter of fact, when they do stare down at my feet they make comments like, "just wanted to make sure that you're still not wearing shoes"...lol
Sorry for this somewhat off-topic reply, but the bit about going bare from day one actually seems like it'll be very helpful for me this coming school year. Now I just have to get myself to do it, lol.
It's not off topic and it's actually the best thing to do if going to school barefoot seems a bit intimidating. Here is my take on it. Even though I've never worn shoes to school it never fails the first week of classes in August there are lots of new people who don't know me, so the first day of school I get tons of looks, stares, and questions out the wazzoo from people not used to seeing bare feet at school. Some people will think it's cool and others will think it's gross. After about 2 weeks people just don't seem to care anymore because they figure no matter how hard they stare at my feet, they will be bare the next day and the next day and the next, so they just come to accept that I'm a barefoot hippie and it becomes common place. If you wear shoes to school and then suddenly stop, it can be overwhelming to get a million questions as to "where are your shoes"? It's better establish who you are on the first day. Hope this helps.
Even Though Jaime Is As "Straight As The Day Is Long", I Would Have To Admit, He Does Give Good Barefooting Advice......:cheers2:. Cheers Glen.
