Vet kidnapped moms cat

Well my moms cat got into a fight with another cat so we took it to the vet. My mother made it clear that money was an issue and to try to keep the cost down. The vet decided to give the cat the most expensive, injection based, anti biotic with out offering cheeper alternative. Then she went on to give the cat VARIOUS different flea treatments and ear mite treatments. I don't know about the ear mites, but I have self checked that cat for fleas and treated him various times before that.

At the end of the day the price came to 180 dollars. When we didn't have enough money to pay up front we asked for a payment plane. At that point the fucking vial **** took the cat into the back room and said "When you can pay in full come pick up your cat"

Since then they have been charging LUDICROUS 'boarding fees and are now telling us it'll cost well over 400 dollars to get our cat back.

This is illegal and no one will help us.

My mom is sick with an illness she will NEVER recover from and that cat was her best and only friend.

I am reduced to asking for online pestering, but could any animal lovers out there please call this bitch and report her and tell her what a fucking vial **** she is?

that happened to me one time, we actually were feeding this stray for a while and taking care of him then we noticed he got sick and brought him to our vet. we asked for a check up (which we had the $20 for) and then they were all like WE NEED TO DO $400 WORTH OF TESTS!!!! and we didn't have it and they told us we could never come back to them again. i made a big ruckus because i didn't ask them to give them the tests, and they refused to give the cat back.

my dumbass boyfriend at the time called them later that day and said 'oh hi i was wondering if you have any orange looking cats up for adoption'
and they go 'oh yeah between medium and large? male?' and he goes 'perfect!' and they say 'it died earlier.'

That's a fucken pisser. Afraid I'd be headed for confinement if a vet pulled that on me.

 

Call the office of the district attorney in your town to find out if it's legal to do that if you've offered a payment plan to the vet. I believe they will give you free legal advice.

 

They're charging you for a service you have expressed no desire for, and have actually told them you do not want performed (the boarding) and they are holding an animal what is your mother's property under the law. If either of those things are legal I'll be seriously fucking surprised, and very disappointed.

 

Thing is, my mom was a warrant for unpaid parking tickets. So we can't exactly call the police. And the tickets weren't even her fault either. Crackhead roommate borrowed the car and got like 4 of them without ever telling anyone.

 

I've done several things. I've e-mailed the local humane society, no response. I've called and filed a complaint to the state veterinary board, they take 10 business days to look into complaints.

And I've called the department of agriculture (I don't know why they were relevant) and they told me a vet was taken to court for this same situation and lost, so it is not legal in this state.

But they still have the cat (or maybe they had it killed already, I don't know) and they keep charging and wont give it back.

I have a record too. It would be too obvious if I took direct action, so my hands are tied.

I'm just hoping if I can get enough people to harass them and call them on my behalf they'll weaken their resolve.

 

That you have a record doesn't necessarily deprive you of your rights. Do what's right and settle up with whomever you have to settle and get your cat.

 

get moms doctor to write a letter sayin the depession will be really bad and hard on her cause of the ''cat situation''...take letter to the community legal clinic...social services can provide a number...have laywer write a letter to vet threatening an expensive lawsuit..

get yourself a job, make some money and pay the vet

afterall - the animal was taken to the vet to help the animal and it was clearly understood that the vet would expect to be paid.

if everyone didn't pay their pets bills there would be no vets and your animals would die.

i just paid 400 dollars to keep my pet well, even though my pet was brought to me and i could have simply walked out the door it would discourage the vet from helping other animals.

pay the bill for your mother

if you think the vet was a rip off merchant then find another vet who is cheaper so next time it won't cost you as much.

It's not that she's refusing to pay the bill. It's that they're refusing to return the cat, and charging to keep it.

 

Wrong. She's just scamming us. How the hell does a bill go from 180 to 260 dollars in 3 days for BOARDING (unlawfully holding) an animal? And in 2 days from that 400?

1. we're both poor, me more so than her.

2. I don't have to swallow it, I can go punk rock on that bitch.

i'm sure you could do some work to just pay the bill - if you think the vet is overcharging just warn a few people and contact some consumer affairs mob

next time find out the fees and charges before you take an animal to the vet

Pay the damn parking tickets and call the damn cops.... even if that costs more, that's just bull. They don't have the right to do that. If you let them get away with it, you promote that bullshit.

And I suppose the moral of this story is one which i unfortionatly learned with weed and my teeth: when someone jacks your shit, don't think, jack their face, and then rejack your shit. The longer someone has your shit, or the father they get, the more legit they look, and the colder any trail or wrongdoing is. But if you foil an attempted theft or whatever, you're a hero, instead of revenged obsessed druggie or whatever.
