why is knowledge affiliated with satan?

knowledge is some times synonomous [sp?] with light or enlightement.
lucifer was formally the angel of light before his fall. [is this true?]

and as the story goes Adam and eve ate from the tree of knowledge.

    "ignorance is bliss"
    "knowledge is power"

no wonder this world is so fucked up.

    can anyone help me out

The notion that knowledge can in itself be good or evil is nonsensical. Knowledge can facilitate good and evil actions. Only from the perspective of the beneficiary or the victim of said actions can we discern whether or not knowledge facilitated good or evil. And even then it was not the knowledge in itself but the manner in which it was used.

Knowledge is indeed power. The power to do things that you couldnt do without that knowledge.

When people say that ignorance is bliss, it usually means that there are a lot of disturbing and upsetting things that are realized with certain knowledge of the world and being ignorant of said things would be more blissful than knowing them. Its not a statement about all knowledge, only some knowledge.

Knowledge is being shared. The word "knowledge" in the statement, "the knowledge of good and evil", means "perception of". Perception is not knowledge. Perception, by its' nature is ignorant, as form is defined by negative space.

People usually say (or think) this, when they are using it to make themselves feel better about purposely keeping someone in the dark.

Generally speaking, to cover for them lying or keeping something from someone they know for a fact would be hurt by the truth...

ie: "I cheated on my spouse and won't tell them, because they don't need to know, after all, ignorance is bliss...."

Edited to point out that I meant "ignorance is bliss" when I said "when people say (or think) this", not the quoted part...

Ignorance may not be bliss, but it sure can preclude worrying about the state of anything distastefull, horrendous, sad,or for that matter, the understanding/learning about/participating in,happiness, joy and/or enlightenment. Or where the hell I put my reading glasses.

LOL, of course it can preclude any worrying about an issue.. it can't actually help an issue though...

The ostrich sticking it's head into the sand is a commonly used representation of this idea, and although that may stop the ostrich from worrying about the truck that is about to run over it, it isn't going to actually stop the truck...

Ignorance it seems can only be an expediency, not bliss.

this makes me wonder if adam and eve were actually apathetic about everything in the garden.

if they didn't know sadness or fear then they probably didn't know happiness or pleasure.

after they ate the fruit they probably realised they were petting savage beasts designed to kill.

that sounds like a pretty cruel joke if you ask me.
