why is knowledge affiliated with satan? knowledge is some times synonomous [sp?] with light or enlightement. lucifer was formally the angel of light before his fall. [is this true?] and as the story goes Adam and eve ate from the tree of knowledge. "ignorance is bliss" "knowledge is power" no wonder this world is so fucked up. can anyone help me out ?
Because the people in power know that the quickest way for them to lose power, is to educate those they control. And for centuries, that meant the church (of various gods). What other way would a religious organization use to discourage learning then to equate knowledge with evil?
And some of these,,, http://www.scribd.com/doc/9402400/The-Sacred-Magic-of-Abramelin-the-Mage http://www.scribd.com/doc/21701189/JEHOVAH-AND-HIS-QUEEN-asherah-elohim Who controls the past, controls the future.
Well then the next time you start another thread with this title perhaps you should leave out the mention of Adam & Eve, and not post it in the Christianity forum??
You're in the wrong place then. If you're looking for people who can discuss religion without being condescending assholes, this is definitely not the place. That said, the answer above is probably about right.
i used adam and eve story as an example of knowlege being evil, and hoped for a spirtual christian to give me some decent answer. but i now know the people posting here aren't really christians. sooo ...
You might try the Sanctuary forum, although the rabble seem to invade it now and again as well. I feel I should clarify here that I'm not a Christian either. I'm just trying to help you out because others are being dicks. I have only the highest respect for people who put thought into their religion.
Dicks? he asked a question, was given answers to which he responded, 'those werent the answers I wanted"... why would he expect anything else now???
I am a Christian (sort of) and the above answer is right. Galileo was kicked out of the church for chalenging their teaching of the position of the earth. Saint Augustine said, "The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell." the church has always been scared of science, but god doesn't tell us that science is bad, the church does. The myth that knowlege is bad is a product of orginized religion, (don't trust it) not from god.
Any thinking Christian would HAVE to ask this question since the stories of good and evil, as told by man, are supposedly what we're to model (or not) our lives around. Do you notice that the good and evil thing only matters to the people who try to control you? Like your parents, your teachers, the cops, the government, the church and so on. Our ignorance is only bliss for the people in control.
You have chosen examples from one Church and have condemned all religion because of it, I would only condemn that one church.
Well put. However, I don't agree that the principals in the Bible are there to be used as a means to control. Although, many have twisted the things in the Bible and used that for their own self interest, but we can say that about many books, not just the Bible. There is a tendency to take the ideas of others and use them in a way that wasn't originally intended. But since you ended your post with such a nice phrase, I thought I'd share with you one of 'my own'. 'Books aren't dangerous, but people can be.'
"And guns don't kill people. People kill people." Points well taken, def. And such is the problem I have with these teachings because SO FEW people get off their lazy asses to figure things out for themselves. Lets just watch TV and let Jim and Tammy tell us. I know the original intent of the Bible wasn't about control, but if you let man have something long enough, he seems to screw it up with his manipulative behaviours and pursuits. Then it all gets "evil" from there. We're not a species that can be left alone with the cookie jar.
