when you're starving sucks. also, shopping for a teenaged boy who doesn't know how to cook real food yet but doesn't ask for anything is difficult. in addition, he's a teenaged boy, so he eats junk. dave and i are very neasrly vegetarian now, not from any idealistic "animals are friends, not food" standpoint, in case some of y'all get excited. the sorts of things i have to buy to make well-rounded edible meals that don't include soy but still have protein is expensive. then there's the girls. pickier eaters you'll never meet. but tonight i think everyone will be happy. we're having black bean and barley burritos and salad. fresh guacamole, some sour cream, fresh cilantro. i wanted to make a cucumber yogurt dip but can't find fresh mint. i need my own herb garden. so what i'm going to do is make it with cucumber, yogurt, cilantro and lime. and i'm only on this topic because i'm starving and went grocery shopping.
I'm not a vegetarian, I love meat, and don't like anything do do with avocados, but that sounds amazing right now. I will admit that I've never had Guacamole (sp??), so I have no clue what it's like. The cucumber yogurt dip sounds kind of like Tzatziki sauce that I love on baked Pita triangles, except tzatziki is lemon instead of lime. Anyway, just thought I'd comment
yeah, it's a variation of tzatziki. i didn't have lemon, mint or anything else. so i made my own with ginger, basal and cilantro and lime. i'm going to carry forth and boil some potatoes and use it as the "mayo." it takes really fresh and yummy. i think it'll be awesome in the summer. i may even add some sour apple dices.
it sounds AWESOME to me, of course, i'm frickin starving right now lol About to make myself some "oven fries"......soooo tasty!
Gearing up to cook me a chicken and a butternut squash. Also going to put a couple cups of dried garbanzo beans in some cold water to soak for a few days with a tablespoon of sea salt and 2 tablespoons of Garlic powder. Really great as a cold snack or sautéed with a drizzle of dark sesame oil.
yumo you realy know whats cracking, i like to stuff thing or wrap also make towers, looks nice two, my thoughts peace
if i ever have to eat ramen again, i'm gonna pitch such an unholy tantrum. teenaged boys won't willingly eat anything healthy under any circumstances.
Oddly enough all i can remember eating for dinner as a teenage boy was steak, srsly. Steak, olives cut in half and legumes, my dinner pretty much every night that i didnt have pasta, or as i call it, pastata.
The trick to Ramen is to not eat it as it is in the package, Add some garlic powder, crushed red pepper, dice up a green onion or two and a couple mushrooms with fried bacon chunks and drizzle some dark sesame seed oil on it and it's like a whole new kinda dish almost.
Actually that does make Ramen sound quite bearable and also a lot more nutritional (a lot more because it isnt nutritious at all to begin with).
yeah. i know. i've done every cheap culinary trick i can with ramen over the 35 or so years of mostly being broke. it's still ramen. eggs, seasoning, boiled in the broth, boiled without and stuff added to it. veggies, leftover meat. still hate the shit with a passion.
