http://www.barefooters.org/faq/22.html I was looking around this website tonight and found this in the FAQs. There's pictures of barefoot sandals with things like leather and nylon straps. Hope this helps!
I'm guessing these man sandals aren't very durable. Also, I imagine that with the scuffing on floors and perhaps even pavement that the straps must wearout fairly quickly. FYI: I think anyone who is the slightest bit observant would have to be in left field without a glove not to notice that someone was unshod wearing these things. If only there was a better solution... The good news according to numerous articles on this forum and various media outlets is the less we have to do with running shoes or any type of shoe for that matter, is best for our feet. Hopefully we're closer to bare feet being acceptable than we think.
People may look at you suspiciously when you walk around barefoot. They will think you are a fool if they see you wearing these. Barefoot or flip-flops, you have to choose.
I can't speak for the "manly" sandals in this thread, but I made some simple barefoot sandals myself and "put them to the test." I was surprised that I had no issues at all, even in situations where I know I would have been hassled barefoot. My experiences are documented in this thread: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=366130&f=403 Whether they actually fool anyone is a matter of debate. I do think they give employees an excuse not to enforce any anti-barefoot policies. Unless they've got a bad attitude, most employees don't want to create an ugly confrontation.
I don't really like those. I don't want anything on the bottoms of my feet at all or it will feel like I'm wearing shoes.
If i start getting kicked out of stores, i'll just cut the bottoms out of some moccasins or something...
I saw an ad yesterday on Myspace for topless sandals. They look just like flip flops minus the thong. The concept behind the sandal is that the foot bed contains a sticky residue that keeps your feet from sliding off. From what I saw in a mini video, they don't seem to be the easiest things to remove from one's feet. I imagine that they would leave the soles of your feet feeling dry and cracked when you finally do get them off. Despite being priced at under five dollars, I'm yet to see anyone wearing them.
I have seen a girl wearing those at the mall like 2 years ago. It made me do a double take. But I would not want them. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING ON THE BOTTOMS OF MY FEET. I am having a girl at school try and make me a pair of barefoot sandals out of black hemp. I will see how they turn out. Since I have no shoes to wear, I just want something to get my by door security, etc. if my friends ever want to go someplace like a city museum or something.
You surprised me with the news that you actually saw somebody wearing those at the mall. Perhaps the company that makes the product had a stall there.I think the hemp idea is a good one. When does she hope to have these ready for you by? Please share with us photos of the final result.
No, I don't think they sell them in the mall. This was like 2 maybe even 3 summers ago. I saw a girl coming out of Macy's wearing them and it made me look twice. My friend Sarah is supposed to try to make the barefoot sandals for me this week. She has never tried this before, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out.
