I currently live in White Rock BC and am looking to leave this sick society. I want to build a cabin out in the mountains somewhere. Before anyone tells me I am not suitable or trained or it’s impossible, I was in army cadets for 4 years and have completed basic training in the Canadian Military. I have lived in the interior of BC in my truck before for a winter. I am not planning on spending $20,000 on some property; it’s not what living in the wild is that living on a farm with a log cabin. Being that this cabin will be illegal the backpack up to the site will have to be a couple of days long, with a few trips just to bring everything up to the site. Getting injured is NOT an option. I am looking for someone to join me on this venture. I live in Canada so it has to be in Canada, I will also be taking two dogs with me as well. You: have to work hard, love the wild (obviously), knowledgeable in hunting or foraging or both, preferably a girl but if you want to come your welcome, the more hands the better. This is not going to be a cakewalk, there is going to be a lot to overcome to make this goal a reality and if we succeed be will be models for others to follow in our paths.

P.s. please don’t be negative  if you don’t like the idea than don’t comment, but feel free to give insight (there is a difference) in to any way this could be made better,

Hey Chuck! this is something that i have been wanting to do for quite some time now , all im really waiting on right now is my gun license and when i have that i think im pretty ready to go, BC was also in my head to live but then thought about the possibilities of newfoundland and their huge moose population , so then food wouldnt be as stressful , i have lived in a tent for a few months from the end of winter (when it was still freezing brrr) til the end of summer and i cant wait to get back out again , once you have a taste of freedom good luck trying to go back to "normal house living"
well it sounds very do able to me , just finding the right group of people for some extra hands has been the most difficult to find , most people think its going to be a fantasy land full of festivals and flashing lights haha , but thats not really the case , its alot of hard work but in the end its worth it to me since i hold my health and freedom far above anything else .
So sounds like we have similiar plans chuck , and i hope we can share some more and see if we are headin the same path, and other people too who are also serious about packing up and heading into the deep dark woods.:D

Sound like you think of this in the same way, I am open to go anywhere in Canada. Newfoundland would be so cool, and food is always important to think of. As well I would love to travel to Newfoundland it would make an wiked journey. I am a very handy person and love nature. i cant stand how society is impacting my life i just wanna break free

If you have the land there's plenty of people looking to join a commune... I suggest you put out the word in a blog, wait for hits, screen any that you seem fit the profile for your agenda, contact them one at a time to discuss their skills and what they have to offer and any supplies they can contribute, etc. make a list and invite a few at a time. Give them a trial time to monitor work habits and behavior, and any who don't work out, ask politely to leave, or give them another chance after a good chat about their priorities.
Also, read the posts in the forums about communes, living on the earth, camping, etc. as you read, take note of the people posting and check them out, again, add potentials to your list, contact them, etc.

If you're looking to "Claim" land, then do some research on something called "Adverse Possession", it basically means, anyone who has been living on unclaimed or abandoned land for like 10 years, uninterrupted, has legal rights to claim ownership without paying for it. At least in the USA, not sure about Canada, but look it up anyway.

    Hope this helps

Good to see I'm not the only jackass around here. All I can say is Brrr! I just dont know how you all cope with winters up there. I spent 36 years in the Chicago area and that was too freaking cold,15+ degrees north?!? Hell naw.

You want out of the norm? Theres a guy who posted on here down in Peru looking for help to set up a Hotel, maybe you just need a change of scene?

i was looking at peru as an option, along with many other countries, but it's hard to get any kind of long-term immigration these days
unless someone is willing to illegally stay in a foreign country
and looking back now, why would i want to leave this country, i love it here
and the province of bc has really tolerable weather

Its impossible! There is no way you can live in the wild without medical supplies and nutritional things!
The MNR is going to shut you down! They wont hesitate to spend thousands of dollars in court to have you kicked out.
Its best to just accept your fate like I have and settle in with the work force. Mabye when you get old you can retire to a nice place in the country.

and ontario is too damn cold to do anything

and i figure since i am a citizen of canada
i should be entitled to some of the resources

Seems to me that somewhere in BC would be best. The winds and snow on the east coast (where my family is from) are too extreme for me to see anyone living there without a good heating system and a LOT of planning and preparing for winter. Same for up north...if you don't mind blinding blizzards 6 months of the year then you're fine but otherwise, BC is probably the best choice for weather, as well as a province that has lots of private treed areas where people won't find and bother you!

Good luck and happy times in your journeys! :)

Ontario isn't too cold, and its definitely not 6 months of blizzards.

As for giving up to the work force and waiting til retirement to get to the country, that's a really silly plan, wait til you are getting old to move to the country. The thing that drives most people away from the country is old age.

You look around in the area that you want to be in, talk to the locals, look through the real estate ads, or go to a place like dignam and find something you can make a deal on.

Most banks and finance companies won't touch remote properties that aren't developed, so that line is almost always out, but there are many private financiers that will, and many people who own remote land and are selling it will be willing to make a deal that doesn't require a big chunk of money down.

Of course you could always find someone who already owns land that is willing to share with you.

The idea of squatting may appeal to some people, which is fine if it does, but it means that at any second of any day, anything you work on to build for yourself can be wiped out, and there won't be a damned thing you can do about it.

Okay but if you're looking for somebody to just help you move things out in the wild and hunt why would you prefer girls? No offense, but given the context of the situation I believe it's a legitimate question, lol. A) You're a random dude on the internet so that might raise a few questions B) the fact that you need women to move cabin parts is just all so odd C) girls hunting and cabin building with sketchy dudes on the net? odds are lookin slimmmmm

Did I miss where he said he wanted a harem? I just saw that he was only expecting to get one or two people, and he would prefer that the first one be a girl....

I don't think that is all that shocking of a thing...

As for the rest... I know more women I would want working beside me then guys. Their capabilities are no different, and in general, they have a better attitude about life and are much calmer.

As for the whole, grab your backpack and come into the deep deep wild where you are days walk from anybody hearing you scream... yeah... gotta admit, that does make me a little weirded out... lol

To the right person for him though, I would imagine it sounds just about right.

Its because when you're out there breathing fresh air and getting healthy you're going to start feeling that sex drive. Much better to have cooch around than a bunch of hairy assholes.

Im glad ChronicTom and neone agree on me with the woman thing. There are three things that cut to the centre of my heart: travle, freedome and a woman to love. with out one of those things I wouldent really be complete. If you can go through life without love thats you but i need it.
