can someone answer me this question. If I wanted to take my car across by ferry to france and drive to spain and to portugal, are there any limitations that might stand in my way, most important being do i have to have had a license for a certain number of years before i can go driving abroad?
Hi Mescaline, here's a link from the government website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/DG_10023103 sounds like you can drive in the EU. Bon Voyage!
hmm, the only thing that worries me is that i have a few claims on my insurance. no points on my licence or anything though
I think you'll be fine =) I drove through France after having my license for 1 year.... and my friend rented a car in croatia after 6 months of driving on a UK license! So i'd say you're okay in the EU.
We are driving to south Poland at the end of Feb going through Holland & Germany. There are no restrictions on how long you have had your licence for but there are certain thing you need to know. Make sure your insurance covers you for European driving. You may need to phone your insurance company to have this put on to your policy at a small cost. If you are fully comp some insurance companys give you 60 days European cover for free but its always best to check this out. Make sure that you have European breakdown cover. Last thing you need it to be breaking down in another country with out break down cover. Take all your documentation with you, both parts of your driving licence, insurance cert, mot cert & the cars log book because they check all this at check points as you cross countrys borders. Find out if there is anything you need to travel across the countrys, e.g. a european breakdown kit, fire extinuisher, first aid kit. In most countrys the Euro breakdown kit is acceptable but other countrys require you to carry more in the car. Have a good trip x
