For only being a "freshman" in your program, I would say you know a lot. I'm a junior and there are people in some of my classes that know NOTHING about paint and mixing. One girl even asked last term how you mix paint, as if it were rocket science to take two colors and a palette knife and mix them. Now, I am not too familiar with watercolor. So thank you for posting this. I typically draw, use scratchboard, and/or paint with acrylic and sometimes oil. I just bought a set of watercolors a few weeks back, but have been too timid to bust them out. What I mean about when I paint is that I don't go out and buy, for example, green paint. I mix my own. I just feel that when you make your own paint, you push yourself towards new boundries. It's easy to pick up a tube of green paint and paint some grass. It's harder to pick up some blue and yellow and make the correct hue of green that you need to get the mood you want for grass... but the results are so much better. I am going to look into watercolors more and thank you for the information.
i can dig it... however i find it handy to have a tube of green around. the pigment base is organic so the paint itself isn't a mix of yellow and blue its a real green. and so yeah, im kinda lazy sometimes just liking to grab the tube of color i want. i've read a lot about watercolor, if you have any questions... about what kind of paper or paint to get, brushes, etc. watercolors are tricky, but not really but i admit that i am an art supplies cleptomaniac... i get all my watercolors via five finger discount. so i spare no expense and get every color i can get my hands on.... i have multiple tubes of the same green or blue, lots of slightly different yellows. i spoil myself. but keep it a hush hush, i can't afford to start paying 10.99 a tube for some series 4 colors. thank you dear, you are a sweet heart
here is a new one i just finished!i'm putting it into my portfolio to get into MassArt... wish me luck!
I like the self-portriate, but the first two aren't showing up for me. Just uncertain little blue boxes.
thanks all,... actually i just removed the source images, which is why they weren't showing up... i just fixed.
I agree... When you mix your own colors, not only do you get a color that couldn't be reproduced, but you also know that no one can buy your created color
