Isn't that what presidents do anyways? I just think it would make more sense if people based their religion on things that exist and there is no argueing over that.

Yeah, but obvious power would invite corruption.

The right thing to do would be to have the masses worship one invisible god, who doesn't interact with you, but you somehow got a book from him telling you how to live. The book might need to be revised a little bit to fit the governments agenda.

The only problem would be getting everyone to belive in the same invisible guy.

But we forget that this is the 21st . We do have the law enforcement these days and they do have a book of laws for u or me to follow which does reflect governments agenda. This is the modern god the big brother that has eyes everywhere ,if u sin u will go to prison the modern hell.

Men in power been at it a long time taking more and more every time they cross the line and secure more of our freedoms, u know in general getting really good at controlling the masses. Thing is religion is an old scam its loosing momentum. But the con men know this there for safety net is in place the real thing right now right here. And now it does not even matter if u know or belief in the law it still applies to u.

Would I be to crazy to think that today, men in power have total control over us.

I mean we are basically slaves free to walk around, in Uk there are CCTV cameras everywhere in America ppl work 3-4 moths out of a year just to pay the taxes. But best of all we can now be farmed in prisons we are locked away fed and kept but not for our well being but for profits. Sure we are let go after we pay our dept to society only because society does not want to pay taxes for them self and the ones in prison. But prison is like university of crime u go in for nothing and then u are a returning costumer for life.

What a wounder full world we have even without the modern day passive religion con. Everyone is in check most work hard and pay greatly for there right to exist others the rebellious kind are kept in cages out of site out of mind still bringing in the money, so really if the idea of god is disproved the religious folks will still behave coz of the 21st laws and the con men still get paid for the same reasons. Nothing changes on the grand scale and individually the idea of god will always be a personal chose no matter of the facts.

Religion, itself, should never be mistaken for God. Religion may be a path, a tradition, a discipline, a school of knowledge, an incomparably valuable connection, but it is a fundamental error to mistake Judaism itself, or Christianity, or Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism etc. for the omni-transcendent ultimate reality.

People always say the world would fall apart if nobody believed in a god because there would be no morals, nobody would have any reason to live, etc.

If you truly believe that, it says a lot about you. I personally don't need a book of myths and legends to tell me it's not right to murder, and everybody makes their own reason to live, whether they realize it or not.

The fact that belief does not require proof suggests that evidence for or against the existence of god is a moot issue.

Look at the statistics, religion is not related to personal moral values when relating to others. The most ardent believers are willing to kill their fellow man solely for religious principals.

I would. But I would worry what it could cause - I mean like it has been said the truly religious people probably wouldn't listen, arguing that the 'proof' is just a test from God. But this could potentially cause a lot of uproar.

That said, I still would. The thought of peace and union is something I can't just let slip away.

if i could prove there was no god, absolutely nothing would be changed.

Of course things would change, maybe more so if it could be proven that God did exist.

I think that if a higher power, what ever that may be, was proven to exist and who actually has an effect on our lives, people would slowly begin to change. People believe in science and proving that there is a 'God' would definitely involve some scientific explanation, or perhaps no possible scientific explanation.

people DO change all the time. and HOW they change IS affected by what they believe. but what they believe is more affected by how they feel, then anything that can be proved to them or not.

the god (or gods if such be the case) i believe in, inscrutably chooses to be unprovable.

the leaders of beliefs give reasons for this which do not convince me they have the slightest idea what they are talking about, at least in this particular context.

yes, but the question is 'If' you could prove their is a God. I doubt this will never be possible, but 'if' it did happen it would have an affect.

People who believe in a God do not need any proof, they have all the evidence they need. I am thinking about those who don't have any faith.

Faith has been changed by 'Religion' and I believe they are two separate things.

I think we are coming from different schools of faith - I don't mean to say that we will prove an existence or not, but just feel that if ever it did happen, those who didn't believe in a god would change.

how would those without god change? Their belief would just be confirmed, unless you are reffering to agnostics.

I think (what everyone else thinks) that the fanatics, (the ones who are causing violence) wouldn't change, in fact, they might become more violent. The open-minded believers would believe the proof. Therefore, losing their reason to be the biggest charity on the planet.

So, while I would want to know, (along with the other 10% of the population that would actuly benefit from the truth) I don't know if telling EVERYONE would be the wisest move.

Atheists donate more than theists, and government doles out more than all put together. Atheists and governments give based on need, theists, particular Christians, give in relation to the returns, eg. converts. It's rare to see Christians at a disaster site giving aid without a bible lesson.

I don't have any statistics, but my church has taken a hati offering every Week since the earthquake happened, and we've raised over $9000 bucks so far.

If those people wernt at church they wouldn't be giving the money.

But like I said, I have no statistics.

If you can't define what God is, then what exactly are you proving?

You never asked for a definition of god.

In this discusion, god is a conscious, higher power.

I don't understand, does the pastor have to approve the charity before Christians give?
