Yes, I had one too so I've been going to therapy for a few months. She too thinks I have it, but is really careful about giving me the diagnosis because of all the trouble on insurance it could cause. It's very difficult to deal with.

I`ve been going to therapy a long time and I`ve been disagnosed with so many different things. I`ve been mistaken for having depression, bipolar, ptsd, sdd. My current therapist says she sees someBPD symptoms in me, because I have a tendency to self harm, isolate, devalue and idealize. Then, I looked up videos of BPD on youtube and I could totally relate to it, and I really do wonder if i have it. Its a crippling mind fuck that makes u feel so empty, sad and alone inside and it hurts. I feel ur pain if ur going through what i am...

BPD is a very real condition, but my advice?: Be VERY cautious about being diagnosed as BPD. If you are, get a second opinion (be assertive) and read...do PLENTY of self-education. Look for books about BPD online.

Many, many, many young women are dumped into the "BPD" bin when in actuality, there might be something else (depression, psychotic depression, etc., who knows) going on.
    Good luck.

I was diagnosed officially as having borderline personality disorder at age 20. It's so rarely mentioned or considered, it's amazing. My personal experience with it gives me a feeling that Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears might just have it, too. That's beside the point, though...

I'm not totally sure about my particular diagnosis, however... in addition to the symptoms of BPD, I'm also a dermatillomaniac (skin picker, mostly on my fingers), have some painful anxiety issues and suspected PTSD. I have absolutely no idea if all this can possibly be co-morbid.

I have the same experience as you. I'm a dermatillomaniac (pretty much anything I can get my hands on) also suspected PTSD. I haven't been officially diagnosed because my therapist doesn't want all the stigmas attached to the disorder also attached to me, but we just use techniques that people diagnosed with the disorder would use. It seems to be helping.

Glad to hear that that is working for you, Katie! For the time being, I'm untreated and handling everything pretty well - no major "episodes" in a long while. The only real serious ongoing issue for me is the dermatillomania. My poor finners are always torn up. :(

The stigmas can indeed be the hardest part to get past... and your therapist is smart for helping you stay free of them. I can't tell you how many therapists said they could not work with me just because of my Dx. They, as a group, didn't seem to understand that BPD is not as much about the disorder as it is the person's reactions to... well, life.
