Oh geez, I haven't even been here a half hour and already someone's feelings are hurt. I just came for advice, friendly discussion, and feedback. If you have to be negative, atleast back it up with an intelligent argument. Otherwise you just sound really immature.

    Alright, I'm sorry.

Basically, this forum isn't about having the type of dreads you want. It's more so about natural, messy looking hippie dreads, so I don't think you'll find a lot of help here.

to be honest, most of the advice given in this forum is for natural locks without product. we are anti-wax here, and there is a strong sentiment against "professionally done" dreads, mostly because it seems a waste to pay someone for locking up and maintenance (most of which is done with wax) when you can just let your hair dread itself.

the majority of people here are kind and very willing to help, as well as accompany you on your journey, but "help" here involves discouraging the use of products that will result in failure with your locks, which includes wax.

here is a link to a thread that discusses wax, both for and against:

i suppose it all depends on your priorities.

Okay, I understand now. Thanks, that was very helpful. So the big factor here is time and nothing else, then, I take it?

    Precisely.

People will say "ya need to twist those dreads" but just ignore them and in a few months your hair will look amazing, trust me.

First I'd suggest to read the stickies.
However you don't seem bright enough to do that so I'll just explain the basics and you fill in the gaps.

*Note - Sir.Dreadlocksftw has already pretty much explained it.

    1. If you have wax in your hair get it out. Either through dunking your head into hot/boiling water or cutting your hair all together.

    2. Pick a method.. whether its backcombing (gay), TnR (better) or natural/neglect best.

    3. Once you've picked a method wash your hair whenever you feel it needs washing.... this is usually when it feels greasy, or an albatross shits on your head.
Everyone here would suggest washing with either... residue free shampoo, backsoda recipes (read stickies) or just water (what I and many others do.. requiries water though)

    4. For the first 9 months STFU and don't post ANY topics in relation to your dreading process.

Ahoy Brother ... get an idea about what you want, then you’ll know what method / approach to take.

A lot of peeps that advocate the ‘neglect’ (love that phrase) approach around here, have ironically had their hair artificially parted and / or backcombed and / or twisted & ripped and / or used wax, in the beginning, anyway … and then they’ll blast other peeps for bringing up these very topics.

Don’t take what a handful of peeps have to say seriously … keep your thread active and see what other peeps have to say too.

    One Love!
