    alright guys.

i started my dreads about two weeks ago, and i've been doing a lot of reading on here trying to get tips and ideas and i've noticed a lot of people mentioning not washing their hair for some amount of days or even weeks after they started them. i washed mine probably two days after i twisted and ripped them. and i wash them every 2-3 days. i alternate between dr. B's and just water. i was just wondering if maybe i should have waited to wash them. i've noticed some of them getting lose but i'm not too worried about it because i've been told many many tmes about the rule of patience and i know that they will most likely fall out before they ever lock up. dr. b's makes my hair soft so i wanted to find a different washing method. i was going to try the acv wash but i'm not sure exaclty how to do it or if it's even a good idea this early into my journey. i'm just wondering if you guys have any advice =]

    you're making it complicated...
-just wash really good with water when your hair feels greasy.
-only check your dreads out in the mirror once a month. ( a watched lock never dreads! )
-if they start falling out, then oh well... its all apart of the process.

as for those alternative washing solutions like ACV and sodium bicarb, i really think that they hinder the process of locking in young locks but are very beneficial to more mature locks.

knowing that, what motivated you to twist n rip after that? Just outta curiosity, I'm not tryin to come off like a dick.

And on the washing tip, with my experiences, I just wash whenever my hair gets greasy. Usually with whatever, water, my girlfriends shampoo, I got some over priced residue free shampoo that I honestly can't tell a difference. Once I even used a dog shampoo on accident. Nothin changed.

no it's cool. i don't know if i understand your question very well though. i really want dreadlocks and i know that in order to get them you have to be patient and i also have heard that more often than not they will fall out but that they will also re-knot and lock back up. and i'm ok with that. i'm willing to be patient. as for only washing when my hair is greasy, mine gets greasy really fast.

thank you for the advice guys. i know i have to let my dreads do their own thing. i'm just trying to get a little calrity on some questions that i have.

it's just a little difficult going into something so blind. when there are so many different answers and ways to go about things. i suppose that's part of the journey though. i really do appreciate the advice though guys. :D

Try some Anti Residue shampoo, it makes my hair nice and clean but doesn't over do with softness.

If you have the patience, then just let ya head do it by it's self.

I tried rephrase my question but couldn't word it properly. Sorry. Perhaps I've smoked myself retarded.

the main problem that i see when people decide they want to dread their hair is their approach at gaining the knowledge needed for what they desire.

change your priorities in your quest for knowledge.

it seems like you're to focused on "how to acquire and maintain a head of dreadlocks" rather than "how and why hair dreads".

focus on "how and why hair dreads into locks", then go experiment. best advice i could give you. :)

dog shampoo = my next shampoo to try ;) lol.

and op, i washed my hair like every other day, and didn't see any negative results. as long as your hair gets fully dry in-between washes, you can wash as often as you want to. and later, after it's locked up a bit, change the washes a day at a time, like every two days, and then every 3 days. you just have to slowly ween your hair off of shampoo and such. no worries, it'll happen :)

I really think what you was with depends on your hair/hair type/oils, etc. I have tried using regular shampoo and it loosened up a lot of the hair. My hair is pinstraight and by using the regular shampoo my hair went straight and slid out. I mean... I still had dreads, etc, but enough hair had fallen out to be noticeable. I tried using the DQ bar but I foudn that really gunked up my scalp and I stopped using it. I have foudn the best for me is simply using baking soda. I have never tried bronners though and I think I may order some just to see what it's like.

    Good luck.
