Anybody have some advice on Penis Envy? :)

First time setting something like this up. I have read some teks and got most of the stuff but not too sure about the cake material. What have you used or seen? Is there a tek I missed on PE somewhere?

    Birdseed, rye grains, or rice?

Read my TEK at the top of this forum. It has just about everything you need. Good luck trying PE as a first strain.

I just started some PE with WBS, about 20% colonization atm. They were the first to start showing colonization out of the 4 strains I started.

they are a pretty potent strain of mushrooms. i'm no expert though. i once ate like 1.5 grams of "penis envy" mushrooms and tripped pretty freakin hard. they are hard(er) to grow (than other strains)

Penis envy is the females wish to have a penis. Terrence mckenna developed them and named them that because they look like dicks.

No harder than any other cubensis strain. They just take a little longer, and sometimes like to give weird mutated fruit bodies and blobs, mostly during the first flush of growth.

I was wondering why people said its harder to grow this strain then others. I thought it had something to do with the amount of air exchange needed or it was more likely to get contaminated. I've been holding off on starting until I found out why.

Have you tried them? One, taking longer makes them more prone to contams. Youre never sterile, youre just good enough to beat out contams. And to get the equivilant of a canopy (cause PE just dont open enough for a canopy) is a fucking son of a bitch and a half. They like 90%+ RH and almost constant FAE for pinning/fruiting. Most (Sub)Cubes can do just fine with 3 FAEs per day and 80% RH.

The slowness of the strain also makes it more prone to drying out, which requires more attention to perfect moisture content in your substrate, as well as RH. It loses moisture like crazy because its slow, but it needs higher than normal RH and FAE for a good pinset.

So yes, they are harder, if you want a respectable yield. IDK about you, but I like to see canopies.

Not saying that you cant do them as a first strain and get away with it, but your yields will probably be very disappointing, even accounting for the awesome potency.

I thought the penis envy (B+) strain was supposed to be a good starter strain

Penis Envy and B+ are different strains. B+ is a good beginner strain.

A lot of people have been less than happy with B+ lately. I guess its genetics have (somehow) weakened it over the last few years.

I just got my first flush of PE yesterday and it grew just like any other cube has for me.

Yea, the PE I started has colonized faster than the other 3 strains I started ... :)
