I don't have dreads but I've always wanted them. I'm wondering how hard it is to find a job with dreads? I know most employers are quick to turn down applicants with unnatural hair colors, so I'm curious if I would expect to have a harder time finding a job with dreads.
Note: I don't live in Toronto where I imagine it wouldn't be very hard to find a job at all considering employers in larger cities seem to be more open minded when it comes to appearance. I live in a city of nearly 60,000 people and I'll be moving to a new city of nearly 100,000 people in the summer.

Depends on what your community is like and what job you want. I've never been turned down because of my hair, but I live in a place where dreads are extremely common so I don't know what it is like elsewhere.

family owned businesses would be good to focus on.
when you go into any place to pick up an app, always wear a tight tam of a solid color (black would be best. avoid earthy colors) or wrap your hair up in something tight.

if it's a foods service establishment, the manager will see that as a + for their sanitation scoring.

well, to be honest, I want to be a writer and probably work cutting hair for a living, so I don't think dreads would be a problem but until then I'm stuck working regular jobs, retail, waitressing, etc...

No one can answer this for you. It all depends on where you are applying and where you are living. There is no definitive answer. By looks of your avatar... North Bay will be quite hard to find employment... I would think near impossible unless you get a call center or something. As for London... more possibilities there.
