Let me start this off by saying I don't have panic attacks. I just dwell on stupid shit and get anxious about a lot of things. I've never been comfortable in social situations either, and that's always sucked. I've read books on the topic, talked to people close to me about it, and found out a really good plan that's seemed to work pretty well for me: Distract myself from it.

So here's where the problem comes in. Whenever it's late at night or I'm alone with nothing to do, the feelings come back. It's like if I can't distract myself at certain times, my mind begins to wander into the anxiety feelings again and it sucks. I can't do something like jog or talk to a friend or anything when I'm alone at 3:00 in the morning and it really starts to suck sometimes. It also makes it hard sometimes to fall asleep. If anyone has some ideas here or has dealt with this before, please give some advice. It really sucks.

in Chinese medicine, worrying & over thinking, anxiety is weak spleen. I know this as I have this and I am seeing an acupuncturist and taking Chinese medicine, I'm getting to know my spleen...

Try to find something that will distract you. Maybe you can play a game online, watch a movie, research some obscure topic. It doesn't really matter what you do, just do something to break the flow of the anxious thoughts. The least intrusive method to overcome anxiety is through behavioral modifications. So, late at night when you are feeling all alone, and the thoughts start creeping in get up for a drink of water or something. Instead of sitting and dwelling on things, check out online game rooms (many of them have chat, so you can socialize as well). If you like to read then do that. Research something, it doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is something that does not cause you stress. Research dog breeds, cat types, latest clothing trends, your favorite musician, anything really. Basically change the environment that you get anxious in by doing something differently.

    Good luck! :D

I get it, I lie around for hours not sleeping and nervously pondering things (not in a scared way, just worried about life).

I just watch films until I drop off, and I get up early to make sure I am tired at night.

Believe it or not, OTC doxylamine succinate AKA Unisom will help quiet your mind. I get cyclic thoughts and intense OCD impulses when I'm tired and as a result get some serious insomnia. It's very rare, however, that two of these puppies won't nip it in the bud. You can easily take one and stay awake, generally, as they don't actually make you tired but help you relax. As with all meds, however... your mileage may vary.

    Be well...

Not weird anxiety but normal anxiety. Not phobia related either just plain old generalized anxiety. All you need is something to relax more to help slow down your mind. Exercise, a mild sedative, a drink, a good rub down, a good joint!

Hey man, i go through the same shit all the time like 24/7 now. i find the best thing to do during the day is get outside- walk around, breathe in the fresh air, walk through a forest or park where there is no one else around and just be with nature... nothing beats the feeling of a one on one with you, the trees, the grass, the birds and bunnies hehe

At night, meditate. It takes practice, it took me a while and im still a beginner in the world of meditation, but fuck, smoke a bowl listen to some calming music, and let your mind take you on a journey. It's a great way to get away and feel what's real as opposed to your mind not shutting up. Hope i helped!

Keep yourself busy man. I'm going through the same stuff. I find that the worst days are the days when i have nothing to do. On days when you're busy, you'll find that you won't even have time to think about it :)

A man here mentioned to me that to relieve the symptoms of anxiety, simply extend your exhale. Further researching subject, I've come to learn that extending your exhale releases built up carbon dioxide from your lungs, allowing for deeper and slower breathing, which is the opposite way of breathing during the state of anxiety, which we usually don't notice. (That our breathing is shallow, fast, and perhaps off-pattern so to speak).

If you extend your exhale and consciously control your breathing, you might find yourself immediately relaxed. I know I do when I put it to it.

i go through the exact same thing! although i am on certain substances to help me sleep at night considering i do have school the next day and its crucial to be able to wake up..
but before that, i remember my sleeping pattern for almost a year was stay up until i cant even function otherwise. i used to stay up all night with thoughts racing through my head.. thoughts that soemtimes didnt make sense, questions that couldn't be answered..
i apparently have an "over-active imagination" because sometimes i would see shadows which the image looked like faces. theres no real explanation for this really..

all i can say is.. i feel your pain.

I'm dealing with a similar experience. I wont give any details of the situation.

But this "situation" is causing me lack of sleep. I'm like you, caught in a seemingly endless battle with my thoughts. Every single time I try to fall asleep that thought, that thing that I don't want to think about comes back and haunts my mind. So I get up, stay up for a bit and try again, until it finally works. I just doze for about 4 hours or so and then wake up and suddenly the sun is coming up.

I know exactly what would cure it, Undoubtedly. The problem is, the only cure has to come from a person in the form of words. This person is not going to do this. So I need to find another way out.

If you find a solution let me know

anxiety is past wounds from within showing themselves to you, try meditation. All of the answers you want are within yourself and its up to you to find them in any way possible
