The extreme size of the universe is mind bobbling. There's over 100 billion stars, and estimated over 125 billion galaxies in the universe. Think of the vast distances just in our galaxy. Our galaxy alone is over 100,000 light years across. The distance between galaxies is generally around 2-3 billion light years. The Andromeda is the 2nd closest galaxy to us I believe, and that's 2.5 billion light years across.

    The universe is fucking huge

This is Earth, from about where Pluto is.

You are here, the food lobby is about 9 billion light years up the 3rd staircase on the right.

whats even crazier is there is no way anyone can really wrap their mind around a number such as "the size of the universe is 46billion light years"

what really gets me about the video is when they show we only can see a tiny sliver of existence.. truly amazing

funny how big the egos are on this planet compared to our relative size

Wait watching the ultra deep field clip, I thought to my knowledge what we saw was about 13.7 billion light years away, it was huge because these galaxies are less then a billion years after the big bang, very, very, very young galaxies. Seeing 47 billion light years away would in theory but us way past the big bang right, which was estimated 14.6 billion years ago. The universe itself might be much bigger but isn't the theory on what we should see ended at 14 1/2 billion light years away?

Exactly! I've been interested in astronomy for a while now and it's almost mind-numbtastically insane to image how big the known universe is ,but I find the biggest barrier holding us back from more discoveries is that some of our egos are too big to accept something so vast/beautiful/not mentioned in any religious text.

Here is a gem I'd love to share, which might shine some light on ourselves and other life outside of Earth. I'll let my friend Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson explain :D

Skip to 1:35 so you can get to the juicy bits
