I actually had no intention of returning to this thread, but something caught my attention. I just finished reading the posts that were made in my absence and would like to clear up a few things, starting at the beginning: This was the first post in this thread, and, thus, the topic. This is what I was addressing. Svitlo37, you say that you "respect people based on how they act." It is clear that you do not return that courtesy. You also say: "being a temperamental psudeo-authority with thin-skin and no leash) then you do not deserve my respect." This is my opinion of you based on your behavior here. By your own standards, you do not deserve my respect, and from your behavior, I could care less if I have yours. And finally, I just don't see any of that idealism you claim to have. There is a reason for dictionaries. You cannot redefine the English language and expect to be understood. If I call someone an asshole, they get pissed, even if my definition of asshole is "a fine fellow." You said I should listen to Tupak. Why should I? It's unlikely I would understand what he says without the benefit of his dictionary. As to the picture: Let's forget about the tattoo, and I'll even disregard the fashion statement. Please explain why I should not have concerns about a young man flipping me off with a gun in his pants; and apparently you think this is something good to publicly display in a thread about "respect." I think the vast majority of the people in this country will agree that this is not the type of mentality that makes for a good society, and, it does nothing to garner respect. As to respect. There are different types of respect. There is the respect that every one of us should show to everyone else, called "common courtesy." There is the respect that you show to authority. This is not respect for the person, rather, respect for the position. Then, there is the deep respect that a person earns by his deeds and/or accomplishments. The first two types of respect are automatic in a civilized society. Without these, we no longer are a civilized nation; and maybe we aren't.
It is unlikely that you would understand period, for the following reason. You cannot tell the difference between a photograph and a real human being.
People re-define words everyday. It's called slang and it's inevitable. Also, Jack, I think you've forgotten it's my fucking sig. I didn't post the picture a bunch of times and then talk about respect.
Interesting that people seem to be demanding respect and understanding of Jack Flash but seem unwilling to reciprocate. Ahhh- youthful hubris....
Of course we can understand his perspective, it's based on simple premises, but it doesn't mean it isn't stupid. The man is 64, so demanding understanding* from him like he might change is stupid. I would also say he IS right to an extent. This goes back same often overlooked truth that things are dynamic and vary from case to case. If we're all entitled to our opinions, that means we're entitled to think someone is fucking stupid. Cleary random thoughts is the place for that. I do so admire that, but I also admire the respect shown in other corners of this place.
To be driven to disgust by iconic stereotypes is an insult to situational awareness. It is not respect that is missing but understanding.
So we're in agreement. No one cares either way. Cool lets keep it that way. This thread is getting way to serious. It doesn't matter. Sometimes I take myself too seriously. But just having a position of authority doesn't say anything about your character. Just having a title wont make me respect someone. Personal judgments on me aside, I stand by that.
Are you telling me that is not a "real human being" in the photo? Get real ! Do you have anything besides Red Herrings?
So, this really is how you want people to see you ?? Slang is not English and when you use slang other people do not understand what you are saying, this thread should tell you that. That is a personal choice that you have a right to make, but you will find more disagreements like this one throughout your life because others will not understand you. You still haven't addressed the GUN and the bird. Are you trying to portray yourself as a tough guy?
No, I am saying your reaction to the photo is not proportionate to the mindset of the individual who posted it. You suggested that it made him hypocritical, and that is not considerate of the individual. The judgment based, like I say, on culturally engendered iconic imagery, not on the hopes, wishes, or dreams of the individual.
Someone mentioned "judge" before. The "title" has nothing to do with the man wearing the robe. It is the robe that you should have respect for, not the man. If you do not respect the robe, you disrespect our nation and our constitution. The robe represents some of our nation's core values. The disrespect that you represent is part of the reason America is in a failing state. With your attitude, the only respect that you will ever have is from others who wear guns in their pants and flip off society.
The photo is his signature, which is what he chose to represent himself and his mindset as an individual. To talk about respect and post an "icon" that flies in the face of respect is hypocritical. Do you know what an Icon is? If you want to know how important they are in portraying ideas and ideologies, just ask a corporate executive. Corporations pay millions for a design of just the right "icon" to represent their corporate image. As far as being considerate of the individual, he has been everything but considerate of me. Rather than explain his position, he resorts to insults, which is exactly what I expect from someone who would use this icon (picture) in his signature to represent himself.
