i lol at people who think global warming is a hoax...

its so hilariously ignorant to think we can pollute and poison this earth as much as we do and it will have no consequences on our planet..

besides, bongsolo clearly has absolutely no idea what global warming is or how it works.. just because it may snow in desert climates doesn't mean global warming is fake.. like guerillabedlam said, it doesnt mean the entire planet is going to get super hot..

bongsolo, next time do some research beyond just your incorrect interpretation of the phrase "global warming".. cause contrary to what you apparently believe, it is NOT synonymous with "planet gets hotter"...

But im not saying the planet isnt warming... Im just saying its not as dramatic or as much as people get you to try and believe. I also dont believe we arent causing it since we are more evironment friendly nowadays then ever before. Please also explain to me why even the scientists that work for Al Gore got caught saying their data was false via email...

Like I said Global Warming doesn't interest me that much but I was unaware of this data that said that the scientists info working for Gore was false, provide some sources it may be an interesting read.

I don't believe any scientist or teachers I had made it that Dramatic, Gore's movie was probably the most dramatic i've seen it presented. Everything I learned about it in class was that there would a few degree increase in our lifetimes, and then there has been some evidence that some aspects are accelerating actually faster than we gave it credit for. I assume you live in the U.S. we are one country man, that spent a good 100+ years of heavy industry and now we have other countries like India and China that are speeding up their industry. Like I said this topic doesn't even interest me that much as I don't see it having a significant impact in my lifetime, I'm just trying to play Devil's advocate a bit and it's quite interesting to me that the original hippies were on the forefront of environmentalism and now some view it as a way of control.

lol.. like i said, you clearly know NOTHING about this subject.. and you've demonstrated that for us once again with this mind-blowingly intelligent post... joker, not to entirely derail your thread, but i gotta set this kid straight..

okay.. where to even begin? lmao

so do you think it is coincidence that the polar ice caps of the artic have melted more than 20% in size since 1979? you mean to tell me that the largest destruction of polar ice just happens to coincide with BY FAR the biggest pollution levels this planet has ever seen? thats a lovely coincidence huh? and that right above the artic just happens to be a massive hole in the ozone layer? and its not like you can just brush it off because its the artic and largely uninhabited.. we are taking about MASSIVE chunks of ice breaking off and melting at astonishing rates here.. when this ice melts, it raises sea level pretty significantly.. this has disastrous consequences for countless ecosystems and countries around the world.

also, do you mean to tell me the earths ozone layer which has been steadily degrading at a rate of roughly 4% a year since 1970, has absolutely nothing to do with the unparalleled rates of pollution and CFC's we have seen since that time period? do you even have any idea what ozone is, what it does, or why its so important? when we put massive holes in the ozone that are continually getting larger, we are allowing more UV radiation from sunlight in... this doesn't seem like such a big deal, but it effects countless ecosystems and plant life who cannot cope fast enough with such large amounts of UV radiation. when plant life cannot survive, you are also effecting any animals/humans that rely on those plants for survival.. therefore the consequences could be disastrous and far-reaching. the effects of too much UV exposure on the ocean could also be disastrous to the countless micro-organisms that most ocean life rely on to survive. also human life will be directly affected as the rates of skin cancer from UV exposure will surely be on the rise.

    LOL

are you fucking serious? do you think re-using grocery bags and switching to CFL lightbulbs and driving prius' is gonna counter-act the billions and billions of tons of pollution we dump into the air each year? many of the "enviromentally friendly" things you see now days, like green energy credits and eco-friendly cars will take YEARS to have even the SLIGHTEST positive impact on the earth...

besides "going green" is nothing more than a fashion trend. its considered cool to be "green" now days, thats why you see so many people and companies promoting it... they dont mention that being green is merely a band-aide for a bullet wound, and even that is an understatement.

while being eco-friendly may somewhat reduce our impact on the enviroment in the future, its not going to do jack shit about the endless billions of tons of waste and pollution being dumped into the enviroment each and every single minute since the industrial revolution era..

also the only reason you see eco-friendly ideas and products on the rise now days is because we've already realized the damage we've done.. now we are scrambling around with the "Oh SHIT!" face, trying to come up with anything and everything that might even slightly atone for the damage we've already done..

who said anything about Al Gore? he's merely a poster child for the climate crisis.. i dont give two shits if EVERYTHING he's ever said was a lie.. because there are thousands upon thousands of scientists (who are completely credible) that have come to the same conclusion about global warming.. it is very real, it is directly caused (or at least incredibly rapidly accelerated) by us, and it is happening right now.

bottom line.. you're completely entitled to your opinion that global warming is this exaggerated concept created by eco-warriors... but you clearly have not even the slightest concept of what it is, what its entails, or why its happening.. so i hate to inform you that your opinion is nothing more than complete bullshit. next time take a little while to at the very least understand the concept at hand before you go making such bold claims.. because when you don't you just make yourself look like a jackass.

    have a nice day :)

Yeah, climate change... its likely humanity is fucked. Meh, nothing of value will be lost. We could of overcome it should the right steps had been taken, but there are reasons why species turn extinct - inability to adapt.

Lets just hope this planet will be able to recover, and perhaps be host to much more beauty - since after all - such conditions that we take for granted do not seem to be very common in the nearby universe.

Chad im sorry that you believe the lies the government feeds you are over exaggerating everything just liek them. You say in from 1979 to now it decreased 20% but what you forget to realize is down south its gettin much colder. You also missed out the point that in the 1970s there was predictions of an imminent ice age sure look like that happen. That theory must of went by really fast since you say 1979 it started warming but im sorry the theory didnt go away until the 1990s when they introduced a new fake theory global warming. From 1979-1990 they were talking about ice age but the planet was warming according to you that seems a bit wierd doesnt it? Even if the world is warming its only by quarters of degrees not couple degrees or whatever they try and tell you. Nothing to really do any damage besides the northern hemisphere warming and southern hemisphere cooling oh wow big deal. Since they were incorrect about the ice age why would I think they are right about global warming. Its all about control if you can get everyone to think alike you can control them becuase once you have everything you ever needed or wanted only left to get is power. You can only get power by controlling people and if you wanna get freaked the fuck out research bilderberg a conspiracy theory but real group that a lot of top democratic officials have went to. Also for querilla...http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/20/climate-sceptics-hackers-leaked-emails.. you can find it anywhere if you search climate scientist scandal or something of that sort

Of the festivals of nonsense that periodically overtake American politics, surely the silliest is the argument that because Washington is having a particularly snowy winter it proves that climate change is a hoax and, therefore, we need not bother with all this girly-man stuff like renewable energy, solar panels and carbon taxes. Just drill, baby, drill.

When you see lawmakers like Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina tweeting that “it is going to keep snowing until Al Gore cries ‘uncle,’ ” or news that the grandchildren of Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma are building an igloo next to the Capitol with a big sign that says “Al Gore’s New Home,” you really wonder if we can have a serious discussion about the climate-energy issue anymore.

The climate-science community is not blameless. It knew it was up against formidable forces — from the oil and coal companies that finance the studies skeptical of climate change to conservatives who hate anything that will lead to more government regulations to the Chamber of Commerce that will resist any energy taxes. Therefore, climate experts can’t leave themselves vulnerable by citing non-peer-reviewed research or failing to respond to legitimate questions, some of which happened with both the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Although there remains a mountain of research from multiple institutions about the reality of climate change, the public has grown uneasy. What’s real? In my view, the climate-science community should convene its top experts — from places like NASA, America’s national laboratories, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, the California Institute of Technology and the U.K. Met Office Hadley Centre — and produce a simple 50-page report. They could call it “What We Know,” summarizing everything we already know about climate change in language that a sixth grader could understand, with unimpeachable peer-reviewed footnotes.

At the same time, they should add a summary of all the errors and wild exaggerations made by the climate skeptics — and where they get their funding. It is time the climate scientists stopped just playing defense. The physicist Joseph Romm, a leading climate writer, is posting on his Web site, climateprogress.org, his own listing of the best scientific papers on every aspect of climate change for anyone who wants a quick summary now.

Here are the points I like to stress:

    1) Avoid the term “global warming.” I prefer the term “global weirding,” because that is what actually happens as global temperatures rise and the climate changes. The weather gets weird. The hots are expected to get hotter, the wets wetter, the dries drier and the most violent storms more numerous.

The fact that it has snowed like crazy in Washington — while it has rained at the Winter Olympics in Canada, while Australia is having a record 13-year drought — is right in line with what every major study on climate change predicts: The weather will get weird; some areas will get more precipitation than ever; others will become drier than ever.

    2) Historically, we know that the climate has warmed and cooled slowly, going from Ice Ages to warming periods, driven, in part, by changes in the earth’s orbit and hence the amount of sunlight different parts of the earth get. What the current debate is about is whether humans — by emitting so much carbon and thickening the greenhouse-gas blanket around the earth so that it traps more heat — are now rapidly exacerbating nature’s natural warming cycles to a degree that could lead to dangerous disruptions.

    3) Those who favor taking action are saying: “Because the warming that humans are doing is irreversible and potentially catastrophic, let’s buy some insurance — by investing in renewable energy, energy efficiency and mass transit — because this insurance will also actually make us richer and more secure.” We will import less oil, invent and export more clean-tech products, send fewer dollars overseas to buy oil and, most importantly, diminish the dollars that are sustaining the worst petro-dictators in the world who indirectly fund terrorists and the schools that nurture them.

    4) Even if climate change proves less catastrophic than some fear, in a world that is forecast to grow from 6.7 billion to 9.2 billion people between now and 2050, more and more of whom will live like Americans, demand for renewable energy and clean water is going to soar. It is obviously going to be the next great global industry.

China, of course, understands that, which is why it is investing heavily in clean-tech, efficiency and high-speed rail. It sees the future trends and is betting on them. Indeed, I suspect China is quietly laughing at us right now. And Iran, Russia, Venezuela and the whole OPEC gang are high-fiving each other. Nothing better serves their interests than to see Americans becoming confused about climate change, and, therefore, less inclined to move toward clean-tech and, therefore, more certain to remain addicted to oil. Yes, sir, it is morning in Saudi Arabia.

Simple fact: Human activities in the past century have sped up the carbon cycle significantly. This causes an increase in atmospheric carbon, but likewise in its cyclic patterns atmospheric carbon dwindles as there is also a carbon sink created by this speed up in cycle. This carbon goes into storage where it is kept out of the cycle for a significant amount of time. According to my text book the increase in atmospheric carbon is only part responsible for the increase in global temperature. Nitrogen, Sulfur, and Phosphate cycles also play a role.

It's silly so many people deny such concrete environmental facts. I'm not in a hysteria about the end of the world, I'm motivated for environmental and agricultural change that would just make our planet overall more healthy.

I could be wrong, but China is NOT healthy. Much of our pollution comes from them. They may have more programs at becoming clean in process right now, but it does not take away from how much GOD DAMN COAL they burn, which is a good chunk of our human activity that increases carbon.

    As for the OP.....

What do you mean "find god." Succumb to a weakness and fly with the forces of ignorance that is organized religion and bigotry. I've found what I consider to be a driving force behind lots of things, I've developed a far more intricate relationship with the fabric of reality. I don't need to wait till I'm older to experience these things, It's all been really simple shit, and I'd have to have been dumb to have not realized any of it.

you are making yourself look like a fucking jackass.. ONCE AGAIN, you have illustrated you have no concept of what global warming is, or how it works, lmao

you cant even put together a coherent sentence, kid.. stay in school little man ;)

THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT FEEDING ME ANYTHING...

i base my opinion on the facts presented by thousands of INDEPENDENT scientists.. this has nothing to do with the government, jackass.. if it were up to the government, they would have everybody believe global warming is NOT happening.. you think they want to shell out billions of dollars for reforms and limitations that will have to be implicated because of the climate crisis? FUCK NO... are you fucking serious?

so you think the melting of the polar ice caps is no big deal? have you any idea of ecosystem interdependence? when sea level changes even a fraction of an inch.. the results are disastrous for any number of plant/animal species that cant adapt to such changes so quickly.. you think increased UV-B exposure is no big deal? you have not even the most basic concept of how such things relate to ALL forms of life and habitats on this planet.. just because the numbers dont seem to be changing that drastically to you, doesnt mean that a miniscule change will not be absolutely DISASTROUS to countless lifeforms, climates, and habitats..

you clearly didnt even read my post.. i said NOTHING about a decrease of 20%.. i said (very clearly) the ice caps have melted more than 20% in size since 1979... so, again WHAT THE FUCK are you talking about?

i dont give two shits if there was a prediction of imminent ice age in the 70s.. key word: PREDICTIONS.. global warming is not a prediction kid, its largely accepted as scientific fact...

did you really say that its not changing enough to do any damage? LOL because my next post is going to be direct links and scientific data to the MASSIVE damage already caused by the depletion of the ozone layer.. the effects are everywhere, in countless species, ecosystems, and habitats.. so please, dont even TRY to make that argument because i will make you look like even more of a fucking retard and you will be eating your words...

why would they be right about global warming? because scientists from around the whole fucking world have all come to the same conclusions.. i have no idea what you are talking about the government for.. you mean to tell me every climate scientist from around this planet is on government payroll and has been commissioned to fabricate lies about the planet getting warmer? are you that naive? do you REALLY think that the worlds foremost experts on the climate crisis from AROUND THE WORLD are all on government payroll? like i said, EVEN IF the government had comissioned all these studies (which it has not, very few government funded studies have even been done- the VAST majority of which have absolutely no affiliation to governments), why the hell would the government want to lie and exaggerate global warming when it will cost them billions of dollars in reforms and programs to combat the crisis?

so contrary to your elementary ideas that this is all a massive conspiracy to exaggerate the climate crisis, so the government can "get control", it has absolutely nothing to do with that...

i suggest you re-read your post.. because you illustrated MULTIPLE times you still have NO CONCEPT of what global warming is, why its happening, or what it could potentially cause.. so you can gtfo of here with that opinionated garbage because your opinion is clearly worth absolutely nothing when you cant even COMPREHEND the topic at hand..

dont bother to respond.. unless you respond DIRECTLY to the points i have made.. you conveniently keep circumventing whatever i say and totally bring up some unrelated bullshit you heard from your conservative parents or something.. you can't even coherently respond to the argument i presented, so im not going to waste my time with you..

also, LMAO at your link to a "ufo-blogger" website.. holy fucking jesus that sounds like a credible source of information

stay in school little man, you've got MUCH to learn.

Chad your points could be true im really not tryin to say global warming is fake at all if thats what you think. I'm tryin to say that the people in charge of it are scamming you all Al Gore for example wants to do good for the world but yet drives around in private jets and stuff. Research Maurice Strong the founder of the Global warming theory used to work in the UN he is the biggest money maker out of global warming theory. Hes the one that says all this stuff about it and guess what? He is an industrialist in the oil company also im sure hes really trying to help this planet like Al Gore. Do some research on him you will understand what im talking about im not at all even trying to say what you think is wrong. I believe in freedom and that anyone can have there own opinion on things so you can have yours on global warming I dont care. I was just trying to point out the higher powers dont even care about the planet at all and were all trying to fix something they say is harmful and they are all for but clearly show by their actions they arent. I mean they have carbon credits which pretty much is just a taxed way of letting you pollute more. I will believe in everything they say if they do 2 things show by their actions that they actually believe in what they are saying and give me proof no closed door keep me guessing shit I want proof of everything and I will trust them. I mean you ask them any questions they wont even answer them but yet im supposed to believe them right?

Why is Jesus's birthday on the 25th of December instead of in July? Because Christians found it easy to convert pagans to Christianity if they said their holidays coincided.. the feast of the Son of Isis.. a holiday celebrated by Pagans is on December 25th... Easter is another Pagan holiday that Christians adopted to help convert Pagans as well

I don't think I'll ever "find" god. sometimes i think that even if i had a (non drug induced) mystical experience, I'd be more likely to assume that I had gone insane than believe it had any bearing on external reality.

While China does burn a lot of coal and overtook the US as the top carbon emitter last year, we can't be hypocritical, China needs electricity, and unlike us when it's boom really began it from the get go started putting mad money into building nuclear plants and wind farms. Coal stations are just much quicker to build and get online. We on the other hand stopped building nukes back in the 79 and pussy footed around any kind of clean energy until recently.

    Define God...

Our ability to grasp the concept may be so limited as to render most arguments one way or another to be moot. I suspect most religious attempts to define God whittle the concept down to the point of blasphemy anyway.
