i'm 18 years old and i've waited long enough to make sure i know what i'm choosing to do. this wouldn't be a random/impuslive "get up and go"; i want to get away. i have this idea to just pack a few clothes and whatever vitals i may think of... but i have no money. i'm thinking i might just scrape together enough to get me on the cheapest bus/whatever to get out of state. i don't know where i want to go yet... that i'll figure out. i just wanted to know if people who may know some things about this would say that it is "possible" to get by with no money? i'm obviously not in it for the comfort and i do anticipate it being difficult but is it possible to survive with nothing?
http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=108593&f=56 this thread might help, is all about living on the road and looks like it has some usefull information.
Sure it's possible. But you really have to think What kind of life do you TRULY want to live? Are you acting out of spite of the establishment or because you positively want to live this life? Do you want to survive or thrive? Do you care about security or do you not mind having constant instability? It's very possible to survive without money (more likely a job). But I doubt that your quality of life would be even comparable to what it is now. That's something only you can decide for yourself.
I know its possible, transportation is the main hindrance in trying to get somewhere, obviously, just have to be dedicated to being bored all the time.
Gear here. You can go any where on this continent if you have good foot wear. Do not go through TX. It is very hard to get a ride. It is hard enough everywhere else. Do you have any trade skills or art skills?
We really need to talk. I would like you to check-out my thread: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=392246&f=57 I think you might be a perfect fit. Get with me and I'll tell you why it would be easy here in NH. Sandrock
You can get by with little money, but buy a tent and a sleeping bag first. Sleeping on bare sidewalk is where you'll be within a week if you don't have something with you...are you planning on living in the city or on the outskirts, camping around like Jack Kerouac characters? The latter would be more exciting and also... I personally feel that people who just want something different, who move to a city with no money and stay in shelters and beg for money and food are, well, selfish and inconsiderate. If you choose to do that you're taking away a bed in a shelter and change from people that would otherwise go to homeless people who REALLY need it, who didn't have a choice in the matter but who are now penniless and suffering because of addiction or mental health issues or because of situations and circumstances out of their control. People who "just want an adventure" and decide to take resources away from people who are truly suffering are not making a kind decision or thinking about others. That's just my opinion anyway, of course, and you are free to do whatever you choose but I think it would be better karma and better love for your fellow humans if you chose to camp or somehow supply your own home, which is why having a tent and staying away from downtown seems to be the kinder choice You can have a great adventure sleeping on beaches or in parks or camping outside town, but remember to try to have a safety plan because when you're out in the world like that there is always the danger of being robbed, raped, attacked or assaulted for no good reason :/ In any case, good luck and I hope you can escape from an unfulfilling life and find an alternative that makes you happy!
