There is no thread... if there's any problem with anyone on the boards or in chat here there are proper ways to deal with it... but for reasons I'd just as soon not go into here it is NOT encouraged to make public posts about it. In the case of discussion threads and posted response there is an icon you can click to report the post. In chat, just use your mouse to copy and paste the offending text into a PM to any one of the supermoderators- or administrators listed toward the bottom of the list of forum leaders. If you feel any moderator is acting outside of acceptable boundaries the best course of action is to first privately contact the offending party and carefully word the source of your concerns. this is a good idea all around- whether or not there's a rogue sentry creating chaos- tact and diplomacy give the best chance of a positive resolution in the event of a misunderstanding and will be less likely to provoke abuse of moderating privileges in a case where concern might be justified. If a positive solution is not forthcoming route then the next step is to PRIVATELY contact a super moderator or administrator who will work to find a solution to the problem. The folks in charge here are by and large a dedicated and conscientious group and most of what I've seen suggests we share an ability and willingness to remember that what we do here will reflect the positives and every once in a while negatives of our own natures. Most people who realize that they've fucked up appreciate the dignity implicitly offered via private contact- this gives them the opportunity to be a part of a positive resolution to the issue without things being needlessly magnifies via open discussion which all too often encourages flaming and personal attacks... which are not tolerated whether or not there is justification for the attacks. Free speech only works when everyone- moderators, members, and guests alike feel safe to sound off on whatever is being discussed- and what is being discussed here is feedback related to the functioning of the chat feature. Peace
By entering the Chat Room (on the user bar), a user is automatically defaulted into Hip Chat. Only then can one choose where to go. This annoys the Hip Chatters because users appear and disappear. Is there a way the Chat Room can be restructured to give users a chance to choose WHERE they want to go instead of being "defaulted"?
the CnP in chat doesnt work that way - chatters are pretty much prevented from copying and pasting most things in chat to posts or pm's on the forums. For some reason, we can copy and paste into other things from chat, but not able to paste here on hipforums threads or in private messages. This prevents many offenses from being reported in the chatroom as it is currently designed, i would think. I also suspect its why you dont see folks sigs with quotes from the chatroom anymore, where it used to be really common on hipforums to see a hipchat quote in someones siggy lol
How about some kind of warning that some of our privileges have been blocked by an administrator Its a real pissoff when you're trying to do something and it's not working because "someone" thought it was funny to abuse their power. I was trying to switch my nick back once and I was blocked for no reason...really turned me off from visiting chat....and made me realize a lot of the complaints I read are warranted. so yah...I'd like a feature that gives us some kind of notice like that automatically.
back to the griping about the chatmods eh? I wondered why we never saw you coming back to the chatroom! Abuse of power is a pretty serious accusation tho, and I dont feel that most of these complaints about chatmods are warranted. Eli and I do alot of things that help the room and put in alot of time there, Im sorry if noone waves flags or posts about that more often. I dont mind the occasional complaint, such as the ones recently by folks who were banned from chat and took it to the forums instead of going the way stinkfoot (and the site guidelines) suggest. But I have to take issue with the claim that I or any of the chatmods "think its funny to abuse power". You didn't come to chat often BBAD, but seem happy to lay out a moral judgment on our modding based on your short experience there. Hopefully I can enlighten you as to the situation you likely encountered from my perspective, info I would have been happy to share with you if you had given me the respect of asking about your experience instead of posting criticism after the fact. Its this kind of false information that makes bad reputations for hipchat, and I am happy to do what I can to dispel it about our groovy little chatroom. Chat moderators cant keep you from changing your nick, but if someone else takes your nick while you have a different one you are told it is already taken. This is true even if someone in another room takes your nick and you try to change back to it. The only way a chatmod can "block" you from changing nicks is to use the silence option so a person cant say anything while its engaged. I rarely see this used and its purely a temp thing, as all chatmod powers seem to be. If you changed your nick & were silenced, whoever silenced you may not have known who you were and silenced several folks to keep them from constantly changing nicknames to confuse. I do this when the nick changing is a problem and I am trying to find out who is who in the room - this usually takes less than a minute and is only something i have had to resort to a few times in the past six months. I was under the impression that pretty much all actions a chatmod can take do come with a notice, and its very possible that you may have experienced some of the drastic lag the hipchat is infamous for. hope this helps! if anyone has any problems with the chat or any chatters, moderators, whoever - feel free to pm me! I dont promise I can fix every issue but I am always willing to talk, share any info I know, make suggestions, be a go-between in peace talks or just a willing listener see ya round the chatroom!
Its really annoying to see how many people get away with the dumb shit they do in the chat room. Like type in every sound or emotion they have and just slow down the chat room I really want to tell the mods that are regularly in the chat to really pay close attention to it and dont just keep letting it get away because they will keep doing it. Especially when there isnt a mod in there I know you're gonna say "ignore em" indeed i do but its much better to see that they are finally kicked
For the last time I will put this nicely: If you have a problem with any moderator you need to take the matter privately to a super moderator, administrator, or the webmaster. There are reasons to not make it a matter of discussion. This is alluded to in the forum guidelines- specifically item 10. I have asked nicely a couple times here and still am coming upon fresh posts complaining about the moderation. I have deleted them. If you do not like the way this site is run then you do not have to post here at all- nor do you need to use the chat. I will happily relieve you of these burdens. The you will no longer have any problems with the mods here. If this thread is destined to generate into a bash the mods discussion the it can be deleted as well.
dont close it, how will we keep track of who i have pissed off? lol Actually I do have a new suggestion for the chatroom.... I would love having chatters avatar next to what they say
i know theirs only so many things that the add on chat can support. http://www.addonchat.com/ a rep system would be nice, as well as a booting system. 2/3 of chatroom vote to boot someone and they have a temp 1 hour ban, when an admin isent around. if we all vote on booting someone becuase they are spamming or just what ever ya know? that would be chill. these are all things u can throw over at the creaters of addonchat. a rep system would be fun almost a good way to help get new mod's yah know? also for you people with microphones, i was thinking about renting us a ventrilo server http://www.ventrilo.com/about.php (P2P voice chatroom) Any online gamers probably know about the program, or have used it before. its a great program, just like hipchat except less typing and more talking. Ventrilo can be amazingly fun if u have the right people in it. its still out their in the ball park but im thinkin bout it
I don't know much about the reputation thing as it is new and I am in chat for the most part instead of posting in the forums, but I'd be interested in seeing some chatrep applied...I think having rep enabled in the room could be both helpful and useful in more ways than one. I'm also in favor of doing away with (some of) the other rooms. They only take up space and tend to confuse new folks who wander through the chat. Being able to block pm's would also be wonderful, as well as being able to copy/paste from the chat window. The moderators do such a fantastic job and get little recognition for their hard work here. I'd like to remind everyone who may have issues that these folks moderate the rooms to the best of their very impressive ability out of the goodness of their hearts and try to keep it a positive environment for us all. While you needn't agree with mods and it is a free speech site, I'd encourage you to consider that berating or trashing folks really says more about you than it does about them. Here's to everyone that makes chat the great little dig that it is!
