So my dreads are only 4 months old, but near the roots they are starting to clump together, I dont want them to I like single dreads...

I've tried ripping them apart but they are to tight, is it ok to cut them apart?

At four months I wouldn't bother with cutting just yet, it could possibly screw you up in the long run. Keep trying to rip, and if that fails only cut a liiiiiitttle bit to make it easier to rip.

It's gonna be hard to tear them apart if they've already started joining together.

I'm not gonna lie, it hurts. It happens to me sometimes.

I wish the back of my head would congo, but I dont sleep on my back so only my sides are congoing. The back of my head just started to lock up, so it looks kind of funny.

I know what you mean about the back of your head just starting to lock up... The back of my head was way shittier than other parts but now it's starting to look cool as fuck.

I find that you can't rip all the way to the scalp without hurting. To get those last few hairs at the base I usually get in there with my fingers and tear apart the remaining strands. Personally, I am stoked on most of my congos, but I try to limit them to two or three dreads at this point. When they get longer maybe I will let them get bigger...

I find this sort of almost scandalous amount of joy in ripping my congo dreads apart.

Mine are like 3 years, and it never hurts me too much to rip them.

Cutting is bad news though- you can loose alot of hair that way.

I Call My Wispie's "Crab Claws", Since Most Of Them Have Two Wispie's

    Which Resemble Claws...:).

Ignore Them, Eventually They Will Be Consumed By The Dread.

SUDDENLY GLEN IS HIT WITH A BRILLIANT IDEA.... Why Not Bleach Or

Otherwise Colour The Wispie's........Instant Conversation Starter In Your

    Local Pub.....:D.

i'm not going to lie.... my dreads have only congoed once when I let them go for the first two months, then I started feeling around going 'wtf... when did this happen?' and those that wouldn't rip I cut :O but haven't had any bad results from it (no weird loose hair or chunks that I've noticed) and my hair apparently doesn't congo much anyways strangely enough... so I'd say cut them apart if it really bothers you, or rip (painful way), or let 'em congo it up. I liked ripping/cutting them apart cause it made my head feel loads better cause the dreads all moved by themselves and they weren't pulling on each other anymore (if that makes sense...)
