cut all but about 3 inches from the scalp off.. then used a knitting needle to untangle the rest. only took about two days.. would have been faster if someone else had done it, but my arms were getting pretty tired.. lol
well i've gotten most out in the last month other than these two that i've had wrapped in hemp. i just took the hemp out and i have super tight knots. i wouldn't mind cutting the one out but the other one is right on the top of my head so it would not grow back well
I never combed any out myself, but I would use lots of conditioner and buy a few bags of assorted plastic combs. I can see them breaking or different ones would work better for different stages.
conditioner will make your hair slippery so it unknots. i mean, that's what it's meant to do. you can try using kid products like "no more tangles" to make it slippery too. and then probably just patient work with a comb. if you have had your locks a long time, a lot of hair will fall out, so have a garbage can handy. if you have only had them a few weeks, or have just gone natural for a few months, it shouldn't be too hard to comb them out.
They use a different method on the studio i took them. Since its normally the hair around the dread that keeps it together, they cut some of it and untangle the rest with conditioner etc. Try to cut the first "layer" of hair.
It took me about 20 hours to comb out my locks. I used a big bottle of conditioner and a couple of metal combs. Just slathered the conditioner on each dry dread before combing, then rinsed the conditioner out of my hair when I was done the combing session.
.....I don't have a full head of dreads, but I can't imagine how slow and painful it would be to remove these. You people are crazy. I would suggest scisors....
When I finally decide to lose my dreads I'm just gonna shave my head..... That's not gonna be for yeaaaaaaaars though.
I actually cut 3 of my dreads off last night to add bangs. I cut them basically in half and combed them out (super easy because I never waxed) They hair was pretty dry and kinky but nothing a comb and some conditioner didnt ease.
When the time comes I will likely cut a bit off the ends and then just tyr and brush it out. It would kill me to loose all my length just because I didn't want dreads any longer.
