So what do your kids like to eat? My son seems to eat things more if I cut them into fun shapes and present them as shapes to eat. Like cheese or something. Go ahead and post your ideas and recipies.
How about.... Hummus (sp) on little crackers Olives (with the pits out obviously) Raw vegetables (carrots, cucumber, celery etc) cut into sticks and served with a dip. Cupcakes Plain cookies that he has decorated himself with icing, sprinkles etc (fun if messy project) Those dinky pots of yogurt, or yogurt/custard served in small dishes.
With my two I had the best results when I had them help me make up their plates.....a little bit of each thing seemed to work when they had access to the fridge and could ask for a couple of carrots or a hunk of cheese and so on. I still involve them in what is for dinner...we rotate what is going to be the menu. First thing in the morning they take turns about what is for dinner (9 and 10 now) and they follow the food guide as it has always been. Mine love dips... anything that they can dip is a hit....I just make the dips low fats and somewhat healthy most times....but a cheat now and again is a good thing if they are eating. One of my pet peeves is hot dogs but have comprimised and make dogwiches... cut up hotdogs and add about a tablespoon of mustard and ketchup and add in 1 half cup of cheddar cheese I dice tomato and peppers and put on a cut english muffin and grill until melted.....I fool myself that they are eating meat.....lol Yeah it works for me. Why do kids like hotdogs
I think I have only gave him real hotdogas a handfull of times in his life..anytime I ever buy hot dogs I get smart dogs. They taste fine and kids dont even know they are veggie dogs
I buy those chicken dog things as they have the least crap in them.....they do not get them often but once in a while I cave in the store and do buy them.. I have really found that involving them in the choice of what we eat is a good thing and they even now tell me that we need to have another veggie at supper so it is working. When they were younger I had a check list on the fridge of the food groups and how many servings we needed to eat and they did it...so maybe that helped.....not sure if they humour me still to this day but at least they eat variety and healthy choices so that I will take.
everything is a finger food with toddlers. Doesn't matter if it's sliced fruit or mashed potatos. They're gonna stick their fingers in it.
Oh yeah. Virginia still thinks yogurt is a finger food! She will put her whole hand in the bowl and scoop some out and just lick her hand! She uses a spoon most of the time, but when she gets frustrated with it, she just goes back to her hands!
My oldest was eating mashed potatoes before he got HOME from the hospital! (God parents can get away with feeding newborns!)
Multi-grain Cheerios, Life cereal squares, grated apple or pear, scrambled egg, multi-grain or whole wheat toast, toasted cheese sandwiches, diced-up cheese, mixed veggies, diced-up soft fruits rolled in crushed Cheerios and.or wheat germ so they're less slippery for little fingers, homemade fruit muffins, waffles or pancakes made with pureed fruits or veggies such as squash, in place of half or all of the oil and cut into bite-size pieces with a pizza cutter (I don't know what I'd do without mine, it's a life-saver!) graham crackers, multi-grain crackers, soft granola bars crumbled into bite-size pieces, lightly toasted quesadillas (I throw just about anything into mine and my twins will gobble them up) steamed veggies cut into bite-size pieces...my brain is starting to shut down now. lol But, like someone else said, with toddlers, everything is a finger food. Hugs...
