I couldn't really determine which sub thread to put this in as some are very infrequently visited. Ok. So I'm curious, I'm taking a Herbaceous plants class and a Botany class and I learned about the properties of the terminal bud and its release of auxins (as well as other hormones). I know that the trimming off of the terminal bud or pinching it back restricts the auxins that in turn lets the stems below the terminal bud grow faster and thicker. I'm interested in this method in relation to marijuana growing both indoors and outdoors. I found some information on the innet but it didn't really answer my questions. For those of you that grow or used to grow did you trim off or pinch back the terminal bud? If so, what benefit is this to marijuana specifically? If not, why not, does it have any negative effect on marijuana specifically such as a decrease in trichome production? Thanks.
Think of it this way. Cutting the top cola off the plant will cause the split into two and give you two new top colas. Now, here is where you have to make your own decision about it. Each of the new colas will not produce as much as the original top but they will produce almost as much. So, instead of getting one big 3 or 5 gram bud you will get two 2 to 4 gram buds. However, this all depends on your cycles and grow times, chemicals and such. I.E. how long you plan on veg cycle and how long you plan on flowering. I have seen this done. It does work. Some people get gready and cut them again. I personally would not do more than one cut. Besides, if you are going to clone your plant the top cola is the best part of the plant to do this with. This should be in the marijuana growing section under Marijuana Growing Techniques. As a matter of fact there is already a sticky about it http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=153306&f=221
Dude, don't be rude. I was trying to be helpful. I could have flamed you and told you to use the search button.
Sorry to come off like that. I didn't intend that. It's not like you didn't reply in your own explanation of things. So thank you.
