I have always been a fan of the sword. It is quick effective and deadly. But now I can't go around killing everyone. It just creates to many complications, (revenge, anger, rage, etc,...bla, bla, bla.) and that is just a pain in the ass. I have always wanted to know if I could bring a government of a third world country to its knees with the power of the written word. Wonder if I will get killed for what I write. Government topples and I get murdered. Which is mightier? Words that destroy a government or silencing the writer permanently? There is no winner. The government is toppled but I am dead. Seems the pen and the sword stuff is nonsense. All of this is hypothetical of course.
In that scenario, the pen would be mightier. The pen would bring down an entire government, while the sword would only bring you down.
written word will continue to live long after the flesh that wields a sword, so in that sense the pen is mightier.
a pen can move money and make contracts, a pen can hire many swords. A pen can make laws and contracts to enforce those laws.
well, a pen can sign a nuclear weapon program into existance, but a sword pretty much just kills the people immediately near you.
Much depends on the wielder of the pen. A skilled writer can influence multiple minds and either prevent or perpetuate conflict. Force tends to change minds less... it simply makes people not want to express themselves out of fear and distrust. Relying on it seems a good way to perpetuate its need.
pens and swords both depend somewhat upon what you do with them. atoms and raindrops are both quite powerful in their various ways as well.
