First off,if you don't smoke ,don't start, but if your'e a long time smoker like me,you need to watch this shit on youtube.I've been rolling my own for years now,so this doesn't phase me,but BOYCOTT FSC CIGARETTES!!!I forget the name of the chemical they're using, but according to the MSDS that shit is for external use only!it produces toxic vapors when put near heat or flame(guess what you're inhaling).Just about everyone I know who smokes these things since they came out has experienced a variety of health issues, including my wife, also a long time smoker.Increased phlem, coughing sneezing, headaches, all kind of shit. And from my understanding, the gov't has never even done any kind of test to see what kind of effects long term exposure has..can we say Tuskeegee experiments kids??Like I said,if you don't smoke, don't start, but if you do,roll your own, smoke a pipe,a cigar,or something if you cant quit.oh,I guess I should've mentioned quitting is best.but if you don't beleive me,go to youtube & type in fire safe cigarrettes.FSC=fucking stupidass congress

That was one of my reasons for quitting smoking last year. I had been smoking for years, but they introduced that fire safe chemical and it fucked with my lungs. I was always getting sick, had a constant cough and they tasted horrible. I was in Minnesota for the summer and when I got back home in New Mexico, they still had none FSC at this time. I continued smoking and experienced no lung problems. Then they introduced FSC in NM and everywhere else in the US i guess. Well soon as I started smoking FSC my lungs were fucked up again. I decided at this point that the cigaret companies only want my money and that is it. They don't want to provide quality tobacco to consumers, they only want money. So I quit smoking and haven't had a cigaret for over a year. Best decision of my life.

Just about everyone I know who smokes tobacco regularly in any form has these problems, myself included (in the past - I haven't smoked all this year and I don't think I ever will again)

speaking for myself, i haven't encountered any of these problems since switching over to additive-free loose tobacco. i also smoke much less. the brand i smoke (american spirit) is fairly pricey, but it is well worth the extra change to scoop a pouch... since a pouch of that stuff last me roughly a week. even when i smoke 'ready-rolls', i would smoke about a pack and a half a day... and was constantly plagued by a horrible taste in my mouth. iffin you do smoke, try some of the junk-free stuff. you'll like it... and don't let the rolling aspect steer you away. if you don't know how to, you can learn in a couple days, tops :p

for sure. i'd wager that you'll smoke less, and as a result save cash... works out pretty good.

not so sure about smoking less, ;) but it's going to be cheaper in my pocket and safer for health.
bought a pack of baccy this morning, and actually quite enjoyed the smoke.
    so that's me converted back.
only went on to tailor-mades years back, 'cos basically i'm lazy i suppose, but this thread gave a bit of a wake-up call, but not quite enough to give up the deadly baccy altogether.:D

cigarettes are designed to make you want more of them. the additives at a rough glance are designed to give you more of a hit with each puff and to remain lit.

roll ups tend to go out, manufactured cigarettes are designed to keep burning (this means that once lit even if you don't take a drag it will keep burning right down to the filter very quickly - which means that you then need to get another going).

another additive to manufactured ciggies is meant to open up your lungs to so receive more of a hit than normal. low tar ciggies will be peppered with this stuff. to get the maximum hit the membrane of the lung needs to be expanded as wide as possible.

what is the aim of the manufactured cigarette?

to keep you buying more cigarettes

it must be an extremely difficult juggling act for the company

    for example..

if you are selling a product that kills its user, how are you to maximise profit? ideally you need a product that kills slowly yet forces the buyer to buy ever increasing quantities of your product. the problem is that the more they smoke, the more likely they are to die. its a conundrum.

one way out of the mess is by encouraging new buyers to the market, a cigarette compnay can only ever survive by new buyers, the old ones become useless to the company as they die off with lung cancer or blod clots on the brain

Do you have any reading material on that to share please?

I've just recently switched to roll ups. It didn't take me long to realize that my lungs were feeling constricted, even though i was smoking much less.

But then i bought a pack a few weeks later, and it was like back to normal.
I thought maybe the roll ups were actualy worse for my lungs, and i still wonder right now because of the lack of a filter thing.

I just looked at a site that said you get one third more tar from roll ups, and the same chemicals as factory made. I don't know who to believe.

Speaking of people making claims, check out this 'News Article' on ECigarettes. It looks like a 'News Article', but then read the fine print on the bottom of the page (humorous disclaimer). "we are NOT the news", etc.

    http://www.news10report.com/health/?gclid=CKiLnJeEqqACFQaiagodsl3KYQ

just another example of crap to believe at your own risk..

    i'll have a look around

as a general "rule roll" ups might be better for your health - as long as you try and use a filter.

if you're looking for the hit, you'd be better off just taking the nicotine pills.

Nitrogen oxide is a gas found in car exhaust and tobacco smoke.
Our bodies use it in very small amounts to carry signals between cells. But in large amounts, it is a major air pollutant. It directly damages lung tissue and causes inflammation in the lungs.
Normally, our bodies produce small amounts of nitrogen oxide, which causes our airways to expand. The large amount of nitrogen oxide in tobacco smoke changes things in two ways:
    • When smokers are smoking, it expands their airways even further, making it easier for their lungs to absorb nicotine and other chemicals.
    • When they are not smoking, it shuts off their internal nitrogen oxide production line, causing their airways to constrict. This is one reason why regular smokers often have difficulty breathing.

    Ammonia

    Ammonia

Ammonia is a gas with a strong, irritating smell, and is used in some toilet cleaners. Some studies have found that ammonia enhances the addictive power of nicotine. It changes nicotine into a gas that is more readily absorbed into the lungs, airways and bloodstream.
Like carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, ammonia also kills cilia.

you have to remember that cigarette companies will hone their product, the rate of burning and how it burns will affect what chemicals are produced

these guys need you to keep buying, if you don't buy they don't make money.

I dont see how some of the smokers up north even afford to smoke cigs anymore! last time I checked out the price of smokes up north it was close to 6 bucks a pack? These cigarette companies i think are the 3rd anti-christ.
Just 1 example kent cigs up through the middle 60s made their filters laced with asbestos. whats it going to take to get people to wake up and smell the coffee?

    OMG REALLY???
    There's TOXIC in cigarettes?!?!?
    Like that's news XD

How about just quit smoking PERIOD? Do you know what's EXACTLY in cigarettes (no matter what company they're from)??

There are MANY things in cigarettes that you probably had no idea were ingredients...including:

    carbon monoxide- car exhaust

    nicotine-bug sprays

    tar-material to make roads

    arsenic-rat poison

    ammonia-cleaning products

    hydrogen cyanide-gas chamber poison

    acetone-nail polish remover

    butane-cigarette lighter fluid

    DDT-insecticides

    formaldehyde-used to preserve dead bodies

    sulfuric acid-car batteries

    cadmium-used to recharge batteries

    freon-damages earth's ozone layer

    geranic acid-a fragrance

    methoprene-a pesticide

Does that still make smoking look appealing?
It doesn't make me want to start...
...so for all the people reading this who smoke, hopefully you're aware of what you've been doing to yourself...it's gonna get ugly, and you won't like it at all.

My husband and I have been growing and rolling our own tobacco for around a year, mainly for this type of reason and also because I don't like to pad the pockets of greedy corporations :) Thanks for the info!
