Well months ago I had to shave my dreads off *sobs in memory*, they were badly infested with lice (2 primary school aged kids) and I had tried everything. I've always known that I wanted them back *badly* and now my children have super short hair so nits won't be an infestation problem for a very long time (hopefully) and I've been having the dread dreams... Since I shaved them Now my hair is about 8cm long, should I wait until it's longer or attempt to get them started now?
I'd start them now for sure! That sucks about your last set, I am so worried that'll happen to me with a 6yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old. But 8cm seems fine to me, atm I'm growing out my side cut and am waiting for it to grow 4cm and am gonna dread it them so 8 would be fine how do you plan on doing it?
I'm thinking about getting some lock peppa... I used it on a friends dreads when she first started out and it worked amazing, idk if I wanna go naturale or sectioned though... A friend with 10+ year old dreads (who i've met since I shaved mine) said the fool proof way of getting nits out is with a hair dryer, nits can become resistent to liquids etc but they're not evolved enough to withstand heat
I wouldn't recommend using Lock Peppa or any other DreadHeadHQ product, except maybe their shampoo. I would either go natural/neglect and buy some bronner's soap to wash with or lightly backcomb the hair without using any products.
Why not the lock peppa? Problem is my hair is dead straight, even when it was past my shoulders it was very difficult to get the dreads to stay without falling out and that was with hours of backcombing, everyday at the beach etc... Neglect just didn't work at all That's why I thought the peppa to help it get started and get some knots happening to begin with.
I have heard nothing but horrible things about putting products IN your hair to form dreads. But it's up to you. Good luck
drop the whole idea about lock peppa. it really is just a waste of money. the only thing that stuff may do is placebo you into thinking your hair is locking up faster.
I've forgotten what chemical lock peppa is but it something that dries out your hair of all moisture, so its as dry as possible for it to dread. Yea its good for backcombing but I wouldn't use it long term or on your scalp. I think the chemical might be silica or something, y'know the stuff they put in those little sachets that say DON'T EAT and they stick them in items of.. stuff.. like if you bought a new bag they'd have one of those in there to suck all the moisture out ^^
ughh good point, so what can I use to dry my hair out? swimming in the ocean did it for that day but then the next day my hair would be silky smooth again (without washing or anything) because I don't use chemicals on my head my scalp creates its own moistures and oils to keep my hair silky smooth sigh
