So I got myself some dreads two days ago.

I'm not sure how to get them tight. I know time heals all, but my hair looks like a lot of it is still straight. Any suggestions?

Yes I wash with Dr Bronners, and all that junk. But I have not washed my hair yet. I also do not use wax, but I do use elastics. I used the backcombing method.
Check my profile for pics if it helps.

I think they look great for just two days. You're right, time will do the trick.

Just to let you know, the tightening of your dreads will take a while.

I started growing my dreadlocks 7 months ago doing all the things you're doing right now. Elastics were in for a month, I washed with Bronners, didnt use wax, backcombed. My dreads still have loose hair and look straight at the ends. The roots are flat and loopy and sometimes look wierd.

    Patience is a virtue :)

    1. Take out the rubber bands at the end. you will actually slow down the process because your not letting your hair knot up.

    2. There is nothing you can do to make then tighter besides waiting.

    3. They are going to fall out and be loose for a while like 5 months or so,then they will start to lock, its just how it works.

I started my dreads out the same way, back combed then I kept my rubber bands on at the roots for a month, that helped a little. Then I twisted them a bit at 2 months, but then at 3 months they just fell a part again, so I let them be and did nothing, thats when they started locking up nicely, I am at 8 months and they are getting nice and tight.
